Advice wanted: A good, cheap multimedia storage SSD for linux.
Over the past couple of years I've dragged along with a 1TB Samsung 850 Pro SSD as a secondary storage device. I say dragged along because it's quite possible the most buggy POS disk I ever had to contend with, at least on linux. It has this...thing...it does, where if it is engaged in writing for any substantial amount of time it will simply stop in continuous chunks 5% of the time, corrupting whatever file it's currently writing to, making it pretty useless as mass-storage. It intermittently complains about "unavailable DRM-features" in the TTY, and generally slows down system boot and shutdown because something about it needs to time out. Works fine on windows though, and the EVO version supposedly works fine on linux too.
Anyway, it's getting the boot. I've filled up my M.2-slots (1 for system, 1 for steamgames and whatever), and now I'd like some cheap, not necessarily blazing fast, storage for movies, music and what have you (though not spinning disks).
Any good recommendations for what to look at? I'm thinking 1-2TB 2.5" SATAIII SSD's.

I do acknowledge the difference between window managers and desktop environment. It just demonstrates that using just a window managers provides a significant advantage over DE on lower hardware. Ofcoure I can lower it down further with Arch or gentoo, but we will see it in the next episode of my GNU/Linux adventure. I don't know KDE compares. Until then, awesome is awesome.
Can't demonstrate using Chrome, as it has some 300 tabs open (724 tabs open in Chrome Canary in mobile - my poor Andoid :-(

What's ya opinion on GNOME 40? Are you all mad of the changes, think gnome team is going in a good direction, or you'll just wait it out?
For me I am really happy for the way gnome has been handling gnome so far. Gnome 40 looks nice and all but what I'm really focus on is will it get the job done for my needs like GNOME 3. But other wise I am really happy with the way the Gnome Team is going but really it'll all depends on the effort.

TUTORIAL: How to perform DNS lookup in the command-line - Techblog - Hostmoz
One of the common things we do during web development and beyond is to perform DNS lookup on a given domain. Usually, we do this using online services like MX-Toolbox, but, did you know that we can perform DNS lookup right in the command-line? Even better…
I installed debian on an external hard drive today
It's not a post asking for help nor anything, probably more a message to linux noobs ( as me ) who are curious, and who can't make a virtual machine work well ( the cause being a potato pc ). We can install OSes on external hard drives easily enough. I just had an issue with grub install ( had to create a partition manually, and had to choose the right mode - non-dynamic ) but now my debian works - a bit slower than normally cuz it's not a perfect hard drive, plugged in with usb 3, there are better solutions. And you can do that too, you can install many distros on one hard drive and try them all, explore again and again, without risk of ruining anything else. I'm not sure this post will be of any use, but I guess I just love linux

Do you know any Linux distros reviewers that is inquisitive about distros actually being open source and respectful of unredestributable proprietary programs
Do you know any Linux distros reviewers that is inquisitive about distros being actually open source (public configuration and possibility to build a system image) and respectful of unredestributable proprietary programs (Chrome, Spotify, Oracle Java...), because I don't know any, it is several years that I read news and reviews; these 2 aspects are never present.
I don't know if it is the same for video reviews.
Uploading an ISO on SourceForge/OSDN with GPL license or similar but no public configuration and no possibility to build yourself the system image isn't "making open source"
Also a reminder that Chrome, Spotify, Oracle Java, Visual Studio Code (Microsoft proprietary binary) have unredestributable license unless you have an agreement with them.

Never Satisfied?
Anyone ever go through periods of saying "this is amazing" but, then something stupid happens like you pin a new application to your taskbar and all of a sudden the size of the other icons become microscopic? All of a sudden you're asking yourself if you should be switching DEs maybe distros? Gnome shell extension doesn't work? Cinnamon here I come. Cinnamon missing a feature from KDE? KDE here I come, KDE has everything I want but, something stupid annoys me guess I'll try to make xfce pretty etc etc etc. I think I spent an hour trying to make the fonts look good in firefox so I could ditch chrome.

AMD+Microsoft secured-core server, and what does it mean to opensource?
This joint AMD\+Microsoft announcement means a lot to opensource/security-conscious people: since the closed-source concept of "security by obscurity" doesn't work, and - unlike Intel and other competition - AMD DRTM (Dynamic Root of Trust Measurement) can use a 100% open-source stack: no dependencies on binaries with questionable redistribution license.
There was a rumor at Open Source Firmware Conference 2020 that SMM Supervisor is going to be open-sourced. Thanks to AMD moving the RAM init complexity from BIOS to ASP (aka PSP) firmware: /u/CyReVolt has advanced in oreboot open-source firmware porting to his Ryzen board, and Open Source Firmware Vendors (OSFV) \- like /r/3mdeb \- could deliver the Open Source Firmware to more AMD Ryzen platforms!
All this stuff should give a lot of flexibility and high-end security for OEMs and reduce the dependency on closed source, royalty fee-based models from BIOS vendors of the previous era. Some discussion on Twitter with Microsoft Director of OS Security: https://twitter.com/dwizzzleMSFT/status/1366825073529683969?s=19
EDIT: if you'd like to learn more about AMD DRTM with open-source, TrenchBoot developers are having a nice online conference on March 24th - https://twitter.com/TrenchBoot/status/1367176630326751236?s=19

X vs Wayland & Compositors
So with traditional X, if I run a window manager like BSPWM, I can add any compositor with any features on top of it, like blur for example. So I usually do this with KDE, and switch the WM to BSPWM.
However, with Wayland, the compositor is integrated, right? Like everything is one complete package? So the problem is, there isn't really a good tiling WM that also provides Picom-level compositing features as well.
Having it split up with X was better, because the compositor interested people can make a compositor, and it can work with anything.
Is there a solution to this problem? Thx

Hey guys, this is my first time posting here, just wanted to share a tool I released yesterday that I think some of you could find useful for things like OSINT, data analysis, CTFs or even just out of curiosity/boredom. Good blocks to make a trial run can be found on this experiment made on 2017 by Raúl Kripalani. Python3.8>= and an etherscan.io API key are required.
Feedback and new features requests are kindly accepted, or if you want to do it yourself, contributions are accepted too!
More info about how it works and all the available features are inside the repo.
