Just spent about 4 hours trying to figure out what was causing the system to reset to UNIX epoch
...turns out it was a CI build (system is a Gitlab runner) running in a docker container and the execution was C code that resets the localtime for our embedded devices.
Just a word of warning for anyone working with CI/CD, docker containers will reset your host system datetime quite easily it seems.

Dumb question about having multiple ip addresses on one server
I have a server with multiple ip addresses assigned to it. I would like to have different applications listening to the same port on all of the addresses assigned to the server. I was wondering what general field this falls under so that I can research this topic more. Typically in this application I would specify the address/port to listen on as 0.0.0.0:<port> or 127.0.0.1:<port>. I am not sure how I would go about changing that between the different instances of the applications to make them function independently. Any info would be appreciated and again, sorry for the dumb question!

Started Linux via the recovering tool of windows now windows is broken
So I've put MX Linux on an USB drive.
I started my PC again and for some reason the recovery screen of windows came up. As smart as I am, I selected to use the USB drive through that menu.
It crashed.
Then I booted linux from the bios by selecting the USB drive.
Linux starts but I noticed during the install that I forgot to create a partition for it.
So I went back and tried to start up windows.. it can't boot.
But I can still get into the recovery menu of windows by selecting some windows boot drive in the bios.
In that menu I can't to anything. Whatever I click on, it either crashes or tells me that it didn't work and that nothing was changed.
Is there a way to save windows or do I need to install it again via some USB drive?
It's 6am and I'm trying to get this working for some hours.

When I try to run it as a normal program it works fine, What is the problem?

Keysound: a keyboard sound software
Hello everyone, I am a beginner at cpp. As I learned cpp for a while, I wanted to practice the skills of cpp, so I wrote this software. The code is not well, but the soft works well.
Here is the code: https://github.com/fgheng/keysound
Here is some video:
You can define each key with a special sound:
https://reddit.com/link/lz0zln/video/w74fnauxmel61/player
You can use the `piano.json` to play the piano by keyboard, here is some music that I play, I am not good at piano, hahaha:

Debian or Pop?
Moving on from arch. Been playing around with the live ISO of debian and pop. Just wondering if people have an opinion either way.
I hate derivative distros (like pop) that have so much set up out of the box because you never get a firm grasp of what's going on.....ie power management, is microcode installed?, what repositories are in use, etc. With something like debian you pretty much have to set that all up on your own so you know your system better. Yes you can go through all that on Pop but it's just checking to see if it's done or not.
On the other hand having something mostly set up out of the box is a time saver. Also, I feel like the creators of Pop really know what they're doing. Systemd boot is nice. The GPU switcher on pop is amazing so are their GNOME keyboard shortcuts.
I don't know what to do :\\

Help hplip get moved to git
hplip powers many printers and scanners on Linux, but there's no sane way to contribute to it.
For example, Debian has 60 patches applied to hplip:
https://sources.debian.org/patches/hplip/3.21.2+dfsg1-2/
That is insane!
So I propose something simple, giving some traction to this topic so HP moves the source code to Gitlab or Github, so it's easy to contribute to it and see those fixes on the original source code and each Linux distro.
