16 y/o wants a Linux server

When I asked my 16 year old son to help me remove hard drives from an older surplus computer from the office, he asked if he could have it to set up a Linux server. I’m all for him expanding his knowledge, but why would a 16 year old need a Linux server? I’m a bit suspicious - worried about bootleg software, etc. Is it a bad idea to let him do this? Is there a risk to my home network?

Your favorite Open-Source streamer/content creator?

I'm looking for more Linux streamers / content creators to follow. Maybe you are too?

Got any suggestions? Write them in the comments!
Doesn't matter who or what it is, as long as it's something Linux-y ;)

I'll start with a few, in no particular order (you're all rockstars to me ).

Longhorn on Twitter: "Full Wayland support on Linux, including XWayland" coming to NVIDIA 470 driver series

Link: https://twitter.com/never\_released/status/1369409256567545856/

This is exciting. Looks like I might finally be able to use the 1650 on my laptop as well as external displays with full hiDPI scaling support! :)

Tool to monitor log file

Hi Guys

Is there any tool that can monitor a log file for some text and then send an alert as soon as it comes.

Note: I am aware of datadog, splunk and elk like tools but i am looking for something like an unattended command working in background because i dont want to create a log monitoring stack for this purpose.

lf: Go-base terminal file manager alternative to ranger

Used ranger all the years but struggled when installing it to a new machine these days: couldn't get previews to work, found the config messy and lots of defaults not really sensible. Just discovered Go-based lf by accident and what can I say... it works out of the box, perfect defaults and it's fast. Wondering why it's not more popular.

Finally a decent Linux Firewall (GUI) - Portmaster (alpha)

https://safing.io/portmaster/

Probably an unpopular opinion, but not everyone is a command line pro, able to dive into iptaple and ntf. I certainly have always struggled with FWs on linux despite using it for 15 years and always wondered why there are no simple solution like on windows and android. What I mean by this is, id like a popup as soon as a process tries to established a connection, giving me the option to block or allow this. The alpha is working semi-stable for me on debian based systems.

Doubt Using graphics for anything?

Hi!
I have always had the doubt if I run any software with a dedicated Nvidia card in laptop, Will I get better performance?
For example if I run Firefox or Matlab with it, will I get better performance? This is assuming that I managed to make the graphics work properly with the drivers. (Debian stable, gnome)

What is the most effective way to support the various Linux-based projects?

Dear community,

I know the Linux foundation exists. I know most of the distributions have companies behind. Every project (app) can receive donations.

With this being said, what is the most effective way of supporting the project financially as a whole? How are all the previous parts connected and which is in your opinion the weakest link (therefore to be more supported)?

I am a relatively new user, I apologise for the possible misuse of terms.

Experiences using Interlink Mail & News with Enigmail?

I can't keep fighting against Thunderbird updates. I need Enigmail as Thunderbird's new native PGP doesn't do what I need it to (encrypt list emails: "per-recipient rules") and doesn't look set to for a very long time. From Enigmail's site it looks like Interlink is the only Linux option right now but there is little information about it online.

Anyone had recent experiences?

Or can think of another non-Thunderbird solution for me?
