look up how to do it, since I hadn’t done it in several years.
The fact that you have to use the command line to add the upgrading tool is preposterous. While the 18.3 version is still supported until sometime this year, the fact that a number of releases are available to upgrade, the user shouldn’t have to make any extra steps to find that out. The upgrades should already be available through the GUI updating tool and the user can upgrade now or not.
The LM devs are finally reaping what they’ve sewn for the last number of years, and now they’ve decided to take some control away from their users by forcing updates on their users. One of the reasons so many flocked to Linux in the first place, with Microsoft’s many issues with their own forced updates.
With their plans in the very early stages it’s hard to say what compromises they will make. But again, this could all have been avoided had the LM devs been more responsible with how their users were greeted with updates and a more user friendly way to upgrade to the latest, supported versions.
What are your thoughts?

How did you start your “Linux Journey”?
Hello, dear UN-MICROSOFTED dudes,
I am making a little book (Umm we can say some notes) about Linux so I wonder how people started their “Linux Journey”. So here are some questions: why did you choose Linux? (Lightweight, open-source, secure or something else) What’s happened something big while you use Linux? Why did you stop using Linux if you did? That’s all. If you add something, please add in comments. Thanks :) (Sorry for poor English :/)

Removing windows for Ubuntu
Hi all! I bought an used dell XPS 13 from a buddy and I’m going to wipe out windows and replace with Ubuntu. Here’s the thing. I’m a developer , I use VS code , node, php , Mamp, MongoDB, Mysql, slack, GitHub, gitlab , discord daily. I have Macs, ssh into everything, and most of the server-less stuff I work on are Ubuntu servers. I’m assuming I should just be fine on Linux. If anyone has any advice on pitfalls with Linux and running any of these I’d love the warnings. Any apps or programs that are a must need for Linux would be fantastic. Thanks and all the best!

Android Linux?
Hi, I'm not trying to start an argument, just some food for thought: if people say it's called Linux because the kernel is the OS, 1) why was the term kernel invented? 2) why are other operating systems called by the userspace and not kernel?
For example Android is called Android, only a few people say it's a Linux distro.
MacOS has a kernel called XNU but nobody calls it that, the userspace is called MacOS because all the userspace utilities are named "Mac" or something similar.
Windows kernel is NT but nobody calls it that, the userspace is called Windows because all the utilities are named "Windows" (Windows Defender, etc.)

The SquirrelMail change_pass plugin is able to change the ldap password and shadow password but when I try to browse shared folders in Samba, it will ask me the for password it only accept the last password that was change using smbpasswd. I cannot find any help at google right now.

GNOME 40 Resource Usage?
How is it compared to GNOME 3? On GNOME 3 I was getting 1.5GB used at idle, which is on par with Windows. Does GNOME 40 fix a lot of those issues?
I really like GNOME, but even KDE has been able to address thesr type of problems much more effectively.

Audio output normalization. Any ideas?
I have a folder of music videos which I play at random via noscript. Some of them have low audio volume and others a lot higher. I would like to normalize audio output somehow.
By doing some research, this was the closest thing I could find but it's still not quite what I need or want. I think I need some sort of equalizer that boosts volume if it's below X and nerfs it if its above the X, X being the threshold of output loudness.

Has anyone actually used Garuda Linux?
I wonder how it would run on a old HDD. Does it really run better than vanilla Arch?
https://garudalinux.org/ states that
Our goal is to provide a distro that focuses only on performance while making it beautiful. Thats(sic) why we made some (sane) performance tweaks.
1. Improved I/O performance.
2. CPU scheduler set to performance - optional: install powersaving tweaks.
3. ZRAM enabled by default.
4. Nohang, an OOM prevention daemon.
5. As well as Ananicy, which automatically sets nice levels on your system.
Does any of this have a difference?

Streaming platforms vs. Linux
I tried Netflix, Hulu, Showtime, HBO, Amazon Prime Video and none of these platforms stream 1080p or greater to linux. For some time I've been using a few workarounds, but they either don't work anymore -- like the Netflix 1080p extension for Chrome; or they're inconvenient and potentially dangerous -- like Kodi + add-ons from unknown sources.
Are any of you using a legal alternative for this? I'm considering hoisting the black flag at this point.
