Questions about moving to Linux:
Hello!
I am looking to move to Linux after hearing that it's less bloated, and more optimised.
I'm currently on a Windows 10 laptop and windows got buggy from nowhere, the support is awful etc.
I heard a lot of good things about Linux but don't know how to pick which version I want.
I'm a student, and usually use the laptop for casual things like gaming, emailing etc.
Here are my specs:
8GB RAM DDDR3
500GB HDD storage
Intel Core i5 2430M @ 2.40 Ghz
AMD Radeon 7400M series 1GB Vram, and Intel HD 3000 Integrated Graphics
I basically only need something reliable to run League of Legends (I know that it's not natively supported but has workarounds), Minecraft and any browser, preferably Mozilla Firefox
I also need to know if there is a way to install Linux without any CD/USB drives, maybe installing it directly from my PC? And if there is a way, how do I remove residual Windows files once I completely moved to Linux.
Thanks to everyone in advance!

How do you exit Terminal?
I used to exit terminal by explicitly typing "exit". Sometimes, I just closed with Mouse. But recently, I started closing with Ctrl + D (I found about it recently). Ctrl + D basically is EOF (End of File). I'm sure most of you guys already know about this. But for the unknown, This post is for them.
Save some key strokes :)

x86 Emulator Options for High Performqnce ARM64
I have been playing around with an ARM64 workstation, the Solidrun Honeycomb LX2K. It is a UEFI capable 16-core A72 board with 2GHz cores, and I am running 32GB of DDR4 RAM with a 1TB NVMe SSD. Running Debian 11 on kernel 5.10.x with an AMD WX 2100 GPU.
I am a beginner to intermediate linux user, and moat guides I have found on this are either specific to Raspberry or are outdated. I am looking for any software or virtualization based solutions, whether wine (hangover) based, qemu, or other options.
My issue is translating RPi guides to my generic aarch64 build, or finding a guide I can use for this platform. My main goal is to run 32-bit x86 programs, graphical acceleration being a bonus. My main applications are running proprietary medical software built for 32bit Windows.
Thanks in advance for any info!

Passively cooled system
This is passively cooled computer.
https://www.tuxedocomputers.com/en/Linux-Hardware/Linux-Computers-/-PCs/Intel-Systems/TUXEDO-InfinitySilent-Intel-Core-Series-v11-Mini-ITX.tuxedo
When every computer is not passively cooled, active cooling must have same advance.
If there were two computers side by side with exactly same hardware and the first was passively cooled and second actively cooled, what else than sound and size would be different?
If the passively cooled prosessor temperature rose too much, would it set down it’s processing speed?

Mouse Scroll Momentum Relief
I am sharing this, because it is such a gigantic relief I can't believe it. I'm so excited I have to tell someone who will understand.
On my laptop running X and Firefox it's a regular activity to mouse scroll and then use CTRL-T, CTRL-PGUP, or CTRL-PGDN to change tabs. Unfortunately the scroll momentum is at the mouse level, not the Firefox level so a good portion of the time it interacts with the CTRL and rapidly increases or decreases the scale in Firefox.
GAH!
Well today I got fed up again and gave it a few minutes to try to fix it, and today I found it! synclient has an option for "coasting," which is their word for momentum.
synclient CoastSpeed=0
Oh my god yes.

Oh yes oh yes oh yes.

Have a good day.

So GPL vs BSD, the eternal question. Well I wanted to hear the arguments from both sides, so I'm posting here and on r/BSD (Link). I want to hear why you love or hate the GPL and why you love or hate the BSD license (any revision, but please specify). I also encourage you to comment on the BSD post, but please be civil

Released my first app (a screen recorder)
A few months ago, I posted here on how to contribute to FOSS. Because of your suggestions there, I got inspired to learn programming and this lead to the creation of this FOSS application which took me almost a month to finish.
https://github.com/SeaDve/Kooha
It is a pretty simple app, nothing special. If you want to test it out, it is available on flathub and submitting issues will be appreciated. For now, only GNOME is supported, but in v2.0 hopefully, KDE and such will work.
Also, thanks to the developers who supported and help.

USB 3.0 Laptop Dock with HDMI
As the noscript says I’m looking for a USB 3.0 laptop dock with a HDMI connection that will work with Linux as well as Windows so I can switch easily between my work and personal laptops. If it supports dual monitors so much the better. Any recommendations gratefully received.

Taking Over an Abandoned GPL/LGPL Project
This isn't strictly Linux related, but I'm hoping you all have experience and can help. I found a project archived on Google Code I'd like to continue. It's a java project with a GPL 2.0 jar and 3 LGPL 2.1 jars. Each source file has a copyright declaration by the authors company.
My understanding is I can use this project as I see fit, and convert it to GPL 3 no problem. And any code I write, I would hold the copyright on. Specifically there's nothing in the project to indicate contributions have to be assigned to anyone. All i have to do is also make my version freely available.
Is that all correct? Can I also rename the project?

What happened to k1ss linux and Dylan Araps?
The primary site has lost its domain to a domain squatter.
I checked their github projects and it looks like activity has really dropped off.
Dylan Araps is the guy behind the project.
https://github.com/dylanaraps
His activity declines sharply in late November.
This looked like a really interesting distro, so I'm sorry to see this happen.
I hope Dylan is ok.

Looking for certain features in a media manager
Hi all, I am curious to know if there is any media manager software that uses a web page as it's interface? (instead of a client application)
I was just thinking it would be nice to be able to browse my library from my pixel tablet in the living room while my media sits on a server in the basement. or, my wife could browse it from her Macbook. Does that make sense?
Does such a thing exist? (preferably for Ubuntu)
I have no experience with media manager software at all. :)
