(crosspost) CUPS showing "NOT FOUND" in web gui
CUPS version 2.3.3
i went to a couple places here:
https://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/slackware-14/cups-web-interface-not-found-4175525114/
and here:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/766328/cups-not-working-in-client-machine
neither of these suggestions helped fix my issue. the first one was even completely backwards. /usr/share/doc is the full folder and /usr/doc is nonexistent. but i digress
something in the config is not pointing to the proper directory to access the web gui to load up printers. i added "Allow all" to the end of 3 of the location configs (i left logs alone) and added port 631 to the listen config. what got messed up?

Kawaii GPU Panel - project overview
Hello.
I love Linux and I prefer using it in my common life. Last thing I tried - gaming. I was really excited, that I can play my favorite games on the good OS finally.
Only the one thing I don't like - lack of GPU control software (like Afterburner for Windows). This is really important for me. That's the reason why I decided to create my own GPU control panel.
Kawaii GPU Panel - this is software, that allows you to control your dedicated GPU (sorry, APUs) parameters, like:
Fan speed (also with a curve)
GPU freq
Memory freq
Also, support of profiles (like in Afterburner) was planned as well.
Why we need this thing? We already have something like that or we have the console in the end!
Answers:
This will be fast and easy.
You can customize the program with your favorite waifu (themes are the main aim of the program).
The program was designed as cross-platform software, so you can use it both on Linux/Windows.
The problem
As you can notice, I didn't provide the link to the repo or any screenshot. This is because the program is in the early stage of development. I planned this software almost 2 months ago, but still created only a prototype of UI and wrote a few lines of code.
I have a few reasons why progress is so slow. Some of them will be resolved soon. some - wouldn't.
Anyway, I want to create this program sooner or later. Because the program was planned as fully open-sourced, I decided to announce my plans to the community (you). Maybe some of you will find this idea interesting and will join in the development process.
To let you know more about the project, I also decided to share my docs and diagrams, that I created to make the development easier for the future me (and because I want to become a senior/designer and I need to practice skills like that).
Link to docs (Google Drive)
Also, I want to share a screenshot with the prototype of the UI, that was created by me as the implementation of the planned UI. All values are placeholders for now.
Link to the UI image
Where is the link to the repo?
Because the project is far away from the finish, I decided to keep my repo private until version 1.0 will be released. If you guys will be really interested in it - I will make it public and share the link to it without problems.
That's probably all I want to say. If you have any questions - feel free to ask in the comments.

Compiling kernel for i486
For fun, I'm trying to get Linux running on an old 486. While it would be easy enough to grab an old distro, thought it would be fun getting a recent kernel on there.
Came across this post which had some great info: https://www.insentricity.com/a.cl/283
However after compiling using those steps, I notice that 'uname -a' shows the kernel as being for i686
My .config only references 486 (CONFIG_M486=y).
I read that a few years ago gcc dropped 386 support, but even trying gcc-4.9 doesn't seem to help.
Would anyone happen to have some pointers for compiling for i486?

Anybody have a preference on their favorite lightweight distro?
I was looking for a lightweight distro preferably Debian based. The computer is about 15 years old with 2gb of ram and a beyond outdated AMD processor(not sure which one exactly) any recommendations? I've tried Mint on it but it seems to not work so great. Any input is greatly appreciated. (Not really relevant but I think I can get the nerd award now that my phone autocorrects the word "is" to "os")

Linux apps that are awesome
I’m running Fedora Workstation 33 on a 2014 MacMini and Ubuntu 20.10 on a Raspberry Pi 4. Here are a few apps that don’t come with the default Gnome desktop that you might want to pull down from the repos:
Microsoft VS Code: a gorgeous Visual Studio editor that’s perfect for writing Bash noscripts. You can split your screen and open a Bash shell within the app to test your current noscript.
Lollypop Music Player: Replace ugly Rhythmbox with Lollypop, which has a sharp interface and pulls down a lot of album art.
Photos: this photo viewer is available with Fedora Gnome, haven’t been able to find it for Ubuntu. Reminds me of Apple’s iPhotos.

Checksums in cases of hacked sites
Hello, i have a question regarding the chain of trust for checksum-based verification of a download.
I want to download the correct version of go from their site, and they offer checksums (go is an example, that extends to many more). However, assuming the site was hacked and the packaged files were replaced with malicious ones, how exactly is the checksum still secure? If i was an attacker, i'd simply replace the checksum aswell and no one would find out.
gpg-verification does not have this problem since there is the public key ensuring trust, but i cant see how that would work for checksums.
How is it supposed to work?

Best/practical aliases for ~./bashrc
Hey guys! I am looking for some customization in my \~/.bashrc file. Right now, I have the most basic stuff, such as using "retro" to launch cool-retro-term (with custom profile ofc ), edex for eDEX-UI ( very cool terminal, check it out) and various misspellings of "clear", such as "celar" so I dont have to re-do it when Im in a hurry. There would be a lot more but I still havent figured out a way to add spaces to the aliases.
I use PopOS , based on Ubuntu 20.04.

convert Intel Compute Stick to Amazon Firestick via Linux?
I have an Intel Compute Stick. I installed Lubuntu, which worked okay, but my wife didn't like using a wireless keyboard and mouse to watch Netflix/Amazon movies.
Is there any way to convert my Compute Stick to a replacement for Amazon Firestick by using a different OS (with or without generic remote control)?

Software to index a large archive of Text?
What I am looking for is more or less some software that could make a reasonably quick, searchable database of more than 10GB of .TXT files. Most of the files have tags, none of it is standardized. I want to be able to type in some key words and have it return reasonable matches.
Thoughts?
