How screen capture softwares are built?
I'd like to get an insight on how these kind of screenshot or video recorder softwares are built. Do they read /dev/fb? They mess with video drivers and the gpu raw output? They work with the compositor? Wayland? Xorg? Framebuffer? Kms?
I checked Spectacle source code and got pretty far, but did not understand where a read function call come from
It's too much terms, someone please give me an insight on how I could build a proof of concept of a screen recording app

Slowly but surely the Rust language is making its way into Linux. I talked with Linus Torvalds and Greg Kroah-Hartman about where they see Rust and Linux working together.

An Open Letter to the Community
I know this will be removed, I hope it reaches a few people before that happens.
Richard Stallman, the creator of free software, is being "cancelled" by some tech people. His crime? Expressing unpopular opinions that he later repelled, having unverifiable accusations pointed against him, and being eccentric all around.
Why are people cancelling him? I don't think it's because of the above mentioned things. The man is a revolutionary, a visionary that shaped free software as we know it. Corporate people don't like him because of it.
For example: one of the organizations participating in the smear campaign is the OSI, now if you don't know, the OSI's whole raison d'etre is opposing and dividing the free software movement. Why? Because free software is a political movement. It's a social movement that aims towards freeing the masses from technological emprisonment. Corporate bootlickers didn't like that, but they liked the darwinian aspect of it, so they embraced it without the political aspects and called it "Open Source". Now you know why so many projects reject the term "free software".
Free software's ideals are a threat to the new technological order, one where things-as-a-service and spyware roam free. Open Source wants something else, they want you to work on Open Source projects and use them, but they don't want them to be used as a tool of freedom. i.e. They want them to power servers, or parts of proprietary systems (see Android, macOS, Chromium, etc). Fully Open Source systems are rejected and considered "too-radical" and "unpractical".
Which is why they're trying to destroy the movement by smearing and cancelling its head: The man who fought for it for over 35 years.
Do you really think that state propaganda outlets like Vice interpreted Stallman's email in an entirely wrong way by accident? Do you think that the new FSF's director using macOS is something negligible?

Manjaro 21.0 Ornara released!

Just got rid of the swap file on my new desktop. Was this the right decision?
I recently built my own PC. It's got a 2TB SSD with 64GB of RAM, and I'm dual booting Ubuntu 20.04.2.0 LTS and Windows 10.
I just got rid of the swap file for Ubuntu, because I don't want to be continually writing to the SSD and I deliberately bought plenty of RAM. Was this the right decision?

An open letter in support of Richard Matthew Stallman being reinstated by the Free Software Foundation
Those who disagreed with the attempt to remove Stallman from all posts published an open response letter from Stallman's supporters and opened a collection of signatures in support of Stallman (to subscribe, you need to send a pull request).
Actions against Stallman are interpreted as attacks for expressing personal opinions, distorting the meaning of what was said and putting social pressure on the community. For historical reasons, Stallman paid more attention to philosophical issues and objective truth, and was used to expressing his views head-on without unnecessary diplomacy, which did not exclude resentment, distortion of meaning and misunderstanding. However, these features have nothing to do with Stallman's ability to lead the community. In addition, Stallman, like anyone else, has the right to his own opinion, while others have the right to agree or disagree with this opinion, but must respect his right to freedom of thought and speech.

GNOME 40 is released!
It is our greatest pleasure to announce the release of GNOME 40!
This release is the first to follow our new versioning scheme.
It brings new design for the Activities overview and improved support
for input with Compose sequences and keyboard shortcuts, among many other
things.
Improvements to core GNOME applications include a redesigned Weather
application, information popups in Maps, better tabs in Web, and many
more.
More information about the changes in GNOME 40 can be found in the
release notes:
**https://forty.gnome.org/**
GNOME 40 will be available shortly in many distributions. If you want to
try it today, you can use the just-released Fedora 34 beta or the openSUSE
nightly live images which both include GNOME 40.
We are also providing our own installer images for debugging and testing
features. These images are meant for installation in a vm and require
GNOME Boxes with UEFI support to boot:
If you are interested in building applications for GNOME 40, look for the
GNOME 40 Flatpak SDK, which is available in the **www.flathub.org** repository.
This six-month effort wouldn’t have been possible without the whole GNOME
community, made of contributors and friends from all around the world:
developers, designers, documentation writers, usability and accessibility
specialists, translators, maintainers, students, system administrators,
companies, artists, testers and last, but not least, our users.
GNOME would not exist without all of you. Thank you to everyone!
Our next release, GNOME 41, is planned for October 2021, after our yearly
GUADEC conference, which will be online again. Until then, enjoy GNOME 40.

anyone know of a new project that does this?
So I looked it up and found this thing called AttackVector Linux. Basically it combines the capabilities of both Kali and Tails into one OS. Its old and outdated since the developers discontinued it:
Does anyone know if this project is gonna be brought back or if a similar one will be created anytime soon? Could you give more info please?
There’s this:

But has there been any other projects like it with prebuilt OS that updates to put on live usb?
