Which hardware needs Linux driver support the most?

Just out of curiosity, which hardware needs Linux support the most? So mostly what sort of stuff is most commonly used/essential that is without a driver or without the best-functioning driver?

Are drivers usually implemented as kernel modules? Where could one start trying to write a driver?

It's pretty ironic how many posts have shown up on the webz asking is the oldest surviving true Linux Distro has gone the way of the Dodo when it isn't even an Ichthyosaur ;) I mean it is kinda understandable that some peeps wonder since it is basically controlled by one awesome coder instead of a committee of MBAs but see for yourself and get rewarded at the same time.

It's not a glorified GUI inmstaller. It's a full OpSys with persistence in 8 variants (mostly DE choices) but The Biggie, 4+GB, is a fire breathing but serious tool. It boots on almost anything, legacy or UEFI, and most assuredly give even a half hour exploring all the apps and tools, will be in your tool kit to fix just about any issue, deep or shallow.

good alternatives to tilix (console emulator?)

i really like tilix, because of the bookmark section, where i can have commands, ssh connections and folders in a small pop view and select via arrows... but unfortunately i have a strange bug and the tilix development is pretty much dead...

Can you guys recommend an alternative?

I was wondering, what is the difference between some standard version of Linux like Ubuntu and the Raspberry Pi operating system?

If I wanted to design some graphical apps to run on a Raspberry Pi, could I use the same exact development tools and language as I would on Linux?

Installing linux on an Android tv box

Hello everyone!

I had the bright idea of trying to install linux on a MX Android TV Box

I have never done anything like this before, but i have installed normal instances of linux on regular computers (kde neon, ubuntu)

I quickly learned that i needed to find a specific linux distro for this specific box, or else it wouldnt work

First issue: I dont know what the name of this specific box is, it says MX on top and not much more

I did however, find the manual, in which is said : Android 4.2 ARM Dual cortex A9

First of all, feel free to repost this. None of it was my idea and I'm just trying to communicate what I was told elsewhere.

The past events on Reddit have made some people distrustful of site admins. In a few news/discussion posts there appeared comments remembering past issues with the platform. It was in one of these posts that one user suggested an alternative Reddit-like website: Lemmy.

Personally, I'm not "switching" to it in the foreseeable future. Still, I'm actively lurking, upvoting and posting to try and make the site more active. The largest community in there is !linux@lemmy.ml, so at least (as a Linux user) I can use that and hope other communities will eventually grow to be on par.

All I've learnt about the network in the short time I've been using it is that it's open-source, decentralized and federated with other similar sites. Makes sense that there are so many Linux users in there... Anyway, this is what I found thanks to another angry redditor like me, I think it was only my duty to spread the message to whoever would want to hear it.

PS.: if you do join the site (and lurk and upvote and post), you can select 'All' in the front page and sort by New. This will show you the entire traffic of posts across all federated instances in real time... which is not a lot, by the way, but it's enough for me.

Linux wireless sometimes do not load, upon boot. Sometime does.

As stated I have and had both Ubuntu 20.04 and Elementary OS 5.1 installed along side windows 10. I am currently on Elementary, but thinking of switching back to Ubuntu, or windows since Linux has been nothing but frustration, after the honeymoon appeal wore off.

It boots to linux naturally (without any interference from me), but sometimes when it does it doesn't load my wireless drivers.

If I restart it, it sometimes will fix itself and load the drivers, just restart no additional actions besides restarting. So I do not think it is an issue of not having the drivers, but rather having it load. What is causing this, and what can I do to load drivers when it doesn't load?

Why GNOME looks Tablet and Touch Desktop oriented when it's not on any tablet or most people don't have touch display?

Just curious. I used to hate GNOME but the latest releases made me change my mind. But I still don't get the philosophy behind the design choices.

Like the big icons/folders, no try icons and no window buttons out of the box.

P.S: I am really impressed by GNOME 40. Tried it on fedora and it's very nice but still I miss those things/don't like the huge icons and even the top bar is a little too thick for me. I know I can fix all this with Tweaks but why not as an option but needing a third party tweaks? Why people should rely on extension too that are not made by the GNOME team? I am pretty sure the workflow will be more fluid if it's baked in the system.

Is it worth installing Linux on mac book Macbook Pro 2013 13"?

For the last 4 years, the MacBook Pro 2013 13" has been very hot, even while browsing light web pages. I tried a clean install but still, the problem persists. Is it worth trying Linux on it? It would be perfect if someone has experience running Linux on this machine.

NETWORK MONITORING SOFTWARE RECOMMENDATIONS (Manjaro)

I installed vnstat 2 weeks ago. It worked fine and monitored my network traffic as I hoped it would. Then it stopped monitoring my network devices. I thought nothing of it at first. Now 12 days later it still isn’t monitoring my devices. I don’t want to troubleshoot. I just need alternatives that will just keep doing their job. I’m using Manjaro.

Adding a "support/donate" button to the native application centers can greatly help increase donations to free software projects and prevent many good software from Dying

I recently read an article about free software and learnt that less than 5% free software users actually pay or donate something for the projects which leads to stagnation or death of the project due to lack of funds,
I guess it is partially because its difficult for a user to actually go and fund a project directly on there site, its just tedious for them


I feel integrating a direct donation/support button to the app center can really help developers and ensure quality products in future


i think having something like this could really help entire free software community in general
