cpufetch - Simplistic yet fancy CPU architecture fetching tool (supports x86_64 and ARM)
cpufetch is a tool to display detailed CPU information in the terminal in a fancy way
The program can be installed through the `cpufetch-git` package in Arch Linux, or build directly with make and gcc as explained in the "2.1 Building from source" section. It works in ARM too and even works with Android smartphones (how to run cpufetch in android is explained in the "2.4 Android" section.
I've put so much effort and love into the development of cpufetch. Give it a try and let me what you think!

How to customize xclock background appearence to be dark? Alternative suggestions welcome.
I tried and tried, looked through the man pages and forums but all I could change was the hands colours of xclock. What I want is a black background for xclock with white hands. I'd also appreciate time numbers which I just couldn't figure out.
I use Arch+i3-gaps and in my first workspace I have 1 window running "xclock -update 1" and "xclock -digital -update 1" side by side. The only issue is the eye blinding light background. I would be happy with this same setup but with a dark background.

This is my first workspace setup
Alternatives to xclock are welcome with the following requirements -
1. They need to be as lightweight as xclock is. Or camparative in resource usage.
2. They need to display an analogue clock and the date details side by side.
3. They need to have a dark background and light text+hands.

Why distro developers are ignoring the issue with high cpu temperatures on linux?
I switched full time to linux recently and one of the negative experience i have with 90% of the distros i have tried was the high cpu temperature. I started searching internet and find out that many other linux users are complaining about this. I don't know why distro developers don't pay more attention on this issue. For new users, coming from Windows, that could be a huge turn off, especially if they install linux on laptop.

What is proot?
Hello,
I recently installed proot in my Termux app. I'm curious, what is proot and how does it compare to Linux? Can it access my phone's filesystem, for example? Could I install a Linux program like the translation tool OmegaT on it, if I can just download the OmegaT .tar file and unpack it?
Thanks very much.

Issue with booting off USB
I’m on a windows OS and my second computer is running Ubuntu. At first I tried burning kali Linux (live) on windows and it said it encountered and error. I tried a new USB. Same error. So I went to my Ubuntu laptop and downloaded the same live image and burned it on the USB. It said it succeeded so I plugged it in to the Ubuntu laptop and managed Bios setting to where it boots off USB. I shut off the Ubuntu Laptop, plug in the USB then my caps lock starts blinking 5 long and three short (HP laptop.) tried unplugging and replugging still no good. Taking a few steps back I could easily burn an image of Ubuntu on the USB and TAILS OS but not kali (I was using etcher.) I’ve tried to find how to install kali and use it on a Linux system and didn’t find anything (I did a vague amount of research but still some.) So some help would be awesome.

Why is it so hard to get a Netflix client for Linux?
As the noscript suggests, I'm just wondering why over the many years of Netflix existence why haven't there been a proper working client for it on Linux?
I understand factors like low number of linux desktop users makes the development not really worth it but in the few years I have spent on the Linux world, I have noticed someone always comes up with a work around for such issues even though it's not the official client.
I have looked for a solution for a while now, checking every few months for news of a solution. Nothing. I have to use the Web version which I don't really like.
Is there something that makes it harder to build? Other programs such as telegram and spotify have proper linux desktop clients, why not Netflix?
If anyone has a solution for this, I'd truly appreciate.
Also, is it possible to install the Netflix website as an app?

The problem is that Ryzen 7 has shortages supply issue but found this laptop from eBuyer and I would like to ask the community, should I buy this to use with Linux and what distro works best with ASUS?
All comments that are useful in me making a decision to buy or not to buy is highly appreciated.

Manual Sync Between Desktop and Android
Is there a FOSS Linux program for manually (via USB cable) syncing folders on desktop to android mobile? I've used Syncthing to do that wirelessly, but have had some trouble lately, and want to know if there's a simpler solution that uses a USB cable. The sync would only need to be one way, mirroring the desktop image onto the mobile.

Minimal Linux distro with package manager?
I'm looking for a minimal Linux distro that would work well on a slow ARM system with 128 MB of ram and a display. I want something with a package manager that has a decent selection of packages and isn't too resource hungry (apt didn't work out). So far I've found Alpine which seems like it could be a good choice but I'm curious what else might be out there?

AMD Ryzen 5 3500U w/ Radeon Vega Graphics - trouble with drivers
Hi everyone,
I recently helped out a friend install GNU/Linux on her laptop, which I was more than happy to do, however they've been saying that their browser has been running unbearably slow... taking an hour to do what should take maybe 10 mins. They run events and so have to manage a Facebook page.
I thought I would try to update their graphics drivers. Searching around seems to indicate that it could have something to do with this. Unfortunately, it seems like AMD doesn't provide Linux drivers for their Ryzen 5 3500U. Oddly, it still lists Ubuntu under the list of supported OS's.
Does anyone have suggestions or pointers as to what I might be able to do to fix this issue? I tried de-activating hardware acceleration in chromium, which apparently helped out with mouse lag, but still very slow loading...

Is a LUKS long passphrase safe as detached header?
As I understand, the main real concern about the LUKS header is that would allow to get the master key, by brute forcing the pass phrase, that is usually relatively short and easy.
Imagining to use a very long passphrase (for example 500 characters), which would take billions of billions of years to be brute-forced, there would still be additional advantages to using a detached header? (excluding deniable encryption, which I personally don't consider very important)

How to Sell Apps on Linux?
With the recent major advancements of Linux phones and tablets and convergence becoming a reality, I was wondering:
How to make a living creating apps for Linux, whether it be for the Desktop or the phones?
Are in-app subnoscriptions the only way? As the usual distribution channels (repositories and 'App Stores') seems not to provide a straightforward way to sell software.

Linux on the CPUs of yesteryear
I have to say this here in the linux community, because there must be something I'm missing. I keep hearing some of hardcore linux guys saying things like "Modern CPUs really aren't all that great" and "They haven't improved any per clock cycle" and "you're good with just an old core2duo".
And there's no way. There just ain't no way. Try playing some of these modern 4k games with a core2duo cpu. Even a core2quad, the quad core. The way they're supposed to be played, not downgraded to playstation 2 level graphics. Nobody wants that sh#+.
Anyway It ain't happening. And then there's the workloads that people need to do these days. They're making 6, 8, 10+ core CPUs for a reason. So if you're saying that about modern CPUs, you're just wrong. Go try all that stuff on your 13 year old cpu, see how it works out for ya.
And then there's 4k video. Oh, you lovely video signal. You can forget about that with core2duo's and older cpu's. They hate it. If you want to avoid intel's management engine, just say so. If you don't ever play games or use engineering programs or do video editing, you can just say so. There's no need to post blatant falsehoods, these new cpu's will smoke your old one in modern tasks. The cpu's available 10 years from now, will smoke these we have today. That is the way of things. The way of the force. Maybe the clock per clock performance is similar but that doesn't mean your cpu isn't a honda civic and a 2021 10 core cpu isn't a semi truck by comparison.
I had to say this, cause I keep seeing it everywhere. And they don't clarify anything, they just say "it's really not all that different, you don't really need a modern cpu." Actually yes, we do. Even most normies (windows and mac users) do. They watch 4k. They want to see (certain) games from the current year on very high settings. You are wrong. And I must tell you so.
