NTFS drive showing as unallocated on Win10/Ubuntu dual boot

Hi all!

I wasn't sure where to post this, but hopefully someone will have an idea! I've been digging around the internet for the last couple of hours and can't find any satisfactory solutions.

I have four physical drives with a partition each (not including the boot partition):

Ubuntu 20.04 (EXT4)
Windows 10 (NTFS)
Data 1 (NTFS)
Data 2 (NTFS)

The data drives were formatted to NTFS so that they could be shared between the both operating systems. However, only one of the drives show up on Windows - the other shows as two unallocated partitions.

Here's a screenshot of disk management in Windows - disk 1 is the culprit.

The only ideas I have are to either:

attempt some sort of disk recovery via Windows, which will maybe rebuild the partition table.
This scares me a little, as I have 5TB of valuable data that I'm afraid to mess up.
move all of the data off the disk, format it, then copy it back again.
This will involve using a multitude of smaller hard drives, and takes forever to do!

Has anyone encountered this before or have any advice? Is the disk recovery option actually dangerous?

Linux alternative to running as a administrator.

I was recently wondering like how on windows you can right click an executable or a program and click "run as administrator." I was wondering if there is any type of way to do that on arch linux using KDE without the use of a terminal and sudo.

I just discovered a new Distro but don't get mad at me.

Winix: Basically I loaded up Windows subsystem for Linux and installed Opensuse and it felt good. Then I remembered a long time ago back when America was sort of normal there once existed Windows shell alternatives. I hit DuckDuckgo and found the shit was still around. So, I loaded Ciro shell for Windows 64bit and it was cool. Then that very minute, it occurred to me,. a long time ago I was bullshitting around with... what was the name of it, BlackBox for windows. I saw it was still being maintained and down that shit, son. Now, don't cuss me out but I came to realize I can now use all my Windows applications such as Abobe premiere and photoshop, along with all my Windows based PC games and so on.

And i took a pause and I ponder, bothering my own mind and I said to myself, "Taokiller", "File explore" must go and replaced that shit with "File Voyager".

So how do you like me now... I'm computing with an altered beast. Hybrid of two different computing worlds, maybe just maybe, a god damned abomination. I can run and create bash noscripts, play with hacking tools, and Nmap, play Steam games, recording on Adobe Audition, plus Protools, and I'm doing it all on one system. No virtual machine shit this might be obscene. Now I do not know if you find any of this shit here as refreshing as I do but I discovered for myself the best damn Windows operating system of all times.

Something really interesting I saw

A while ago I was scrolling thru Google images to find myself a nice Fedora wallpaper. I came across something that drew my attention. I thought it was a win-key with a fedora sticker over it but no, it was a fedora-key! The dude was making "win" - keys for mechanical keyboards each with their own distro logo. I forgot about it in the meantime but now I would pay good-money for it. If I remember correctly he was 3D printing the whole button so the distro logo itself was embedded into the button. If you were distro hopping you could easily change your pop-key to arch-key to etc

Trouble programming on Linux

I switched to Linux and I'm more than satisfied but I had a hard time with programming. People recommend me not to use system dependencies and use virtual environments for ruby python and java. The only programming language I've been able to use without a problem was javanoscript since it isn't system dependent. Someone explaining me virtual environments would be very helpful

Why would someone use Windows Subsystem for Linux?

I'm really confused, and I'll be really grateful if somebody helps.

Due my situation, I can't use a Linux distribution as my main operative system mainly because I use some software and drivers that aren't compatible with Linux. Therefore I did some research and I'm considering to usea a virtual machine (VirtualBox seems like a good option) but I'm not quite sure it can help me since I only have around 30 GB of free space on my SSD. Is it enough space to run a virtual machine? How well optimized would a VM run in a HDD?

Then I researched more and started to consider the use of WSL. But I'm not sure how it works. I mean, WSL 2 is kinda a weird VM, right? One even must enable a VM feature (as you can see in the [installation guide](https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wsl/install-win10)).

After doing more research I also found that one can just download the distributions available on the Microsoft Store, which are just Ubuntu, SUSE, Debian and Kali; so I can't use other Linux distributions even if they are based upon that distributions, right? Let's say, I can't use Kubuntu or Pop!\_OS, right?

Now, my questions are:

* Which are the main differences between WSL 2 and a VM?
* What are the advantages of WSL 2 vs a standard VM?
* Why would someone use Windows Subsystem for Linux?

unused RAM not used?

I use an artix+runit+dwm system, with 3 gigs of DDR2 SDRAM


I can't use Discord and other heavy applications cause as soon as it hits 1.5 GiB mark, the system becomes very slow and laggy


The load avg is not that high too, like it's mostly at around 1.5 (I have a dual core pentium with 2 threads so this is normal right?)


Why does this happen when I still have lots of unused RAM?


And what can I do to resolve this?

Looking for (free) usb writing software for windows vista

I’m trying to put Manjaro on an old Dell PC but my jump drive isn’t registering as a bootable. I believe it’s because I simply drag-and-dropped Manjaro onto the drive, but I can’t find a usb writer for vista. Also, I’m VERY new to this with average level knowledge of computers so bear with me.

Are there any Ryzen laptops that don't have atrociously loud fan curves when doing mild tasks?

So far I've tried the Zephyrus G14 (twice), Zenbook 14 UM424IA, Dell Inspiron 7405, and the ThinkBook 13s. None have left me particularly happy.

Genuinely going crazy that I can't find a device that won't spin the fans up just by opening a single tab on Firefox. I've tried PopOS, ElementaryOS, Ubuntu, and Fedora (SilverBlue and Workstation).

I'm unfortunately very sensitive to fan noise and prolonged periods leave me in a poor spirit.

Considering just picking up an M1 MacBook and hoping Asahi Linux will come to fruition. Recommendations would be appreciated for something with a decent battery size (no less than 57wh) and no bigger than 16 inches. Price is not a concern.
