Distrohopping ended
So I have done some serious distro hopping the past two weeks. I have two Lenovo laptops and on the older, bought around 2021 (Ryzen 7, 16 GB RAM etc...), it seems that OpenSuse with KDE is working the best. With the newer and more powerful laptop and newer hardware (Intel i9, 64 GB RAM, Nvidia RTX4000 series etc...), Fedora Workstation is the best solution based on my extensive testing.

what distro would you recommend for new users?
I read that Linux Mint is the best for beginners, but I was also considering the following distros:
Ubuntu
Debian
Fedora
Nobara
PopOS!
CachyOS
my build includes the following GPU and CPU:
RX 6800 XT
Ryzen 7 5800x3D
Which one should I go for if I want to game and everyday use?

Fix for unbootable system after bios update.
PSA for gigabyte users. Bios updates tend to remove the boot entry of your system rendering the system u bootable. To fix it you must disable secure boot, chroot into the system and run the grub install noscript again :(

Wayland is so good!
I've been using Kubuntu for a while now, and I can say switching from X11 to Wayland was deligthful!
Maybe some of the changes are not obvious to the user, but the whole protocol itself means a more secure system and more efficency under the hood.
Also some bugs are present indeed but are not breaking as in the past. It has been a couple of days and it's working like a charm with some tweaks. (Disabling turning off the screen, because it causes a black screen if you sleep after)
Also I can see some graphical artifacts here and there, but again, as long as it does the job, I am very happy to finally have these improvements on my system without it failing.
Worth mentioning, Wayland actually fixed a bug with X11: Scaling. Scaling was not properly working under X11 and using Wayland gave me a PERFECT result. The trigger that led me to switch to Wayland was a bug with Spectacle that if you changed the scaling it didn't take the screenshot right. Wayland solved this. Probably because of the more streamlined protocol. And also it scales much better.

What is missing for OS based passkey support?
Currently, Linux based distros do not appear to support passkeys. So the user needs third-party applications/extensions (e.g. Bitwarden) or hardware tokens.
See https://passkeys.dev/device-support/
Which components are missing? Which projects should one follow to keep track of progress?

Where is the VPN connected icon
Using Linux Mint
I want to change the color of the Network Manager VPN connected icon that it switches to when a VPN connected. Ya know the little T with a lock lookin one. I believe I can just change the icon from the normal white to green easily but can't find it. Not sure what it's named and searching for it by VPN yields tons of different vpn icon files but not seemingly the right one.
So anyone know the icon name and where it's saved?
I'm using the standard theme, so I think the folder is /usr/share/icons/Mint-Y/ but there's dozens of folders with hundreds of icons

which Linux distro to use
I want to switch back to Linux after 6 years of using Hackintosh and Windows in dual boot, but I keep facing the same issue—indecision among a sea of different distros. Could you recommend one?
In the past, I used Linux Mint and Ubuntu.
Recently, I tried Pop!_OS, but it was a terrible experience. I found the system to be buggy, and the Pop Shop was really slow and unresponsive.
Even though I used it before, I'm disregarding Linux Mint—its interface doesn't appeal to me anymore, even though customization is possible. I'm also avoiding Ubuntu due to the Snap controversy. I'm not deeply familiar with the technical details, but based on community discussions, it seems quite frustrating.
Even though Arch Linux would certainly be an amazing choice, I won’t consider it. I’m a moderate user, not an advanced one, and I want something that doesn't require a massive amount of effort to install and set up before I can actually use my PC. I tried installing Arch before and even managed to get it working, but considering all the troubleshooting and small issues I faced, I decided to move on. I need something that just works.
Right now, the distros I'm considering are Fedora and Debian. I see many people praising them, but what do you think? If you have another solid recommendation with a good argument, I'm open to it.
I'll be using the system for simple radio production in Reaper, video editing in DaVinci Resolve, and some gaming in my free time (if that even counts as an activity in this case).
Sorry for the long text lol, but I wanted to include some context from my experience. Thanks!
