I've updated the experimental Windows -> Linux Installer. It can now install Kubuntu as well as Linux Mint.

Edit: The program is Linux installer for Windows that doesn't require a USB stick.


Updates:

\-Checksum verification.

\-Bootable partition added towards the end of C: drive instead of in the beginning of the freed up space.

\-Added Kubuntu and set it to default.

\-Program is now a Powershell noscript as opposed to .exe to avoid being falsely identified as malware by windows defender.

\-Added instructions for creating a persistent installation after booting the live partition.

Just wanted to give a shoutout to xournal++

I am in the process of disowning windows from my laptop and I am just so grateful that I found xournal++. I had to find an alternative to OneNote~Acrobat and I stumbled upon xournal++ and it was just what I was looking for. A simple working tool, with that I can write with my pen onto pdfs. I need it for my studies. Maybe you are looking for something like that to, and I can share my joy over it. Enjoy linux!

I’m ready to free myself from Windows jail.

I’ve landed on ZorinOS Core as my new Linux distro.

Any advice when it comes too optimisation? I’ll be looking to use the OS for browsing, gaming, streaming… basically an all purpose experience.

I understand that “bottles” is a good software too make it easier migrating from Windows, since i get use my windows setups.

But again… I’m technically a noob too Linux in general so any tips would go a long way! :)

Encrypted Laptop SSD

Currently I'm configuring a new Laptop. For safety reasons I want my new Laptop to use a fully encrypted Linux (Ubuntu or Mint) because of handling more and more sensitive Information and also potentially traveling to places outside of Europe where privacy isn't really guaranteed by the state.

Now I'm researching M2 SSDs to upgrade (bought a refurbished 3 years old one for sustainability reasons) and my question is whether an SSD with Hardware based encryption makes a performance difference in a fully encrypted system or not?

Back to Linux after 10 yrs. Decided to try out new KDE Plasma, Hyprland and Cosmic DE.

Cosmic was very positive surprise and it's still in alpha stage. Love it so far. I plan to run it as daily driver to see how stable it is.

Took some time to setup on laptop (mostly power management stuff) but so far so good.

AMA regarding setting it up. Definitely can give some tips.

Wayback has moved to FreeDesktop.org. Hopefully this means good things for the project.

The point of Wayback is to provide a stub/minimal Wayland compositor so that you can run a full X11 desktop on a rootful XWayland server. "Rootful" in this context means that the XServer owns the root window.

This way, if the project works out, you can continue to use your favorite X11 desktop or WM without any extra work on the distributions' part to support a standalone X Server. XWayland is going to be around for a long long time in my estimation.
