Linux Advice???

I've been thinking about getting my CompTIA Network+ certification to pursue a career in Cyber Security/Penetration Testing, but now i'm thinking i should just continue on my pre-existing knowledge of Linux. I'm wondering what's the best way to learn how to use the tools like Aircrack-ng, NMAP, and every tool on the Linux OS, whats the best way to gain hands on real life experience with out having my hand held by tryhackme or hack the box???

Why Hyprland and Zen Browser?

Now I understand trends exist but I've seen Hyprland and Zen browser being used alot in ricing and I am quite curious what makes Hyprland and Zen browser such a common sight among ricing and even some daily driver builds

I do understand the aesthetics behind it, I do think they look very nice but I am wary about if switching over to Hyprland would be worth it, if I'd find any issues down the line or if there's any concerns for performance or stability

The right filesystem for external drivers for Linux users.

Having used macs for several years I have finally moved over to Linux. Very happy so far. I'm almost out of the Apple ecosystem and replaced almost everything with open source solutions.

As I was deep into the apple system, my external drive was using APFS. I tried to mount it using fuse for Linux but somehow I could not and when I try to connect my external drive to my mac, it will not mount. First Aid under disk utility also doesn't succeed.

luckily with a third party app I am able to see and export my data out so probably somewhere in the APFS structure something got messed up.

Moving forward I have other APFS based drives and now I am afraid to hook em up to my Linux machine.

My goal is to backup al my external drives to my NAS using a mac. Then format all my external drives to an "appropriate" filesystem.

I am looking for a filesystem that ideally works on both Linux and windows without file size limitations. What filesystem would you recommend for my external drives and why?

Please watch out when using APFS-FUSE as it might do something with the filesystem structure? Luckily I am able to retrieve my data and as always... make backups backups backups :) Glad to join the Linux party!

What is the craziest thing you have done on linux for fun?

For me, its using distrobox (rootfull) on nixos to gain access to pacstrap, install arch on my own pc from it, then enter my arch install from the distrobox arch container and download some random dotfiles to test it out

I really just like Ubuntu

I've done my fair share of distrohopping. I started on Mint. My laptop has Fedora. (unrelated) I have a Macbook Pro. For the longest time I kept my desktop as a Windows machine in case Windows was needed for university - but it never was, and my Macbook can honestly just fulfil that role if need be.

But still, given that this device needs to be the reliable and compatible one I though "what better distro than the most popular". I installed 24.04 LTS, left the installation media on a thumb drive in case I needed to reinstall, and then used the GUI to update to 24.10 and the 25.04, and I've been happily using 25.04 since then. It really does just work.

I get that some FOSS purists will take issue with certain choices. I get that some people prefer not to use Snaps. I get that some people don't like Canonical. I get that some people don't like opt-out telemetry, but I'm not one of those people. The out-of-the-box experience has been great. I've slotted into it as a uni machine with no hitches what-so-ever.

I have to be honest linux impressed me

I’ve been using Windows for about 14 years but after recall came I couldn’t use Windows anymore so I tried these distros

Ubuntu
It was ok but too annoying at times due to random updates and driver issues

Mint
I had the most hope going into this but I didn’t enjoy it as it was lacking in speed and my sound was broke

Debian
I loved this so much I would daily drive but my install kept destroying itself for some reason

Catchy
Best one so far it used 500 mb ram on desktop and maxed out at 2gb
