What web browser are you currently using and why do you use it?

Considering the upcoming Google Lens integration in Firefox version 143 (along with other telemetry features added in previous versions, as well as the potential introduction of "Page Buddy" AI in the not-so-distant future), many of us may consider switching to other, more private browsers available.

That being said, what is your current browser setup? And what are your expectations for future web browsing software releases?

Hey there! Im trying to look into switching from windows to Linux and I have some questions

I have recently been quite disillusioned with Microsoft and Windows so I started doing research on Linux alternatives a few months back. There is a ton of different flavors but each one requires different hardware and software to work well. Im now truly considering switching because with steam making Linux gaming a more seamless experience through Proton I figured why not.

I use Nvidia and intel in my machine. I wanted to switch to AMD but money has always been kinda tight so my question is that is there any gaming centric Linux distros compatible with Nvidia drivers? I heard a large number of Linux distros are not compatible.

Is there anything I should know before I get started on switching OS? Will my drives become unusable since im switching OS architecture.

What are some distros you use for gaming?

Anyways. thats all I wanted to ask. Thank you very much!

How much of the linux user experience is linux?

From my understanding, linux is the kernal doesn't really care about what is sitting on top of it.

If this is true, then why are most distros pretty much the same? What of the user facing experience is required by linux and what is the shell or de?

For example are file permissions enforced by the kernal or is that the shell?

If the kernal isn't enforcing everything, why are most linuxes pretty much the same?

Custom distro??!!

As it says in the noscript, I am making a custom distro! Almost entirely from scratch. At the moment, there are only 5 things not made by us:
- the kernel (duh)
- GRUB
- libssl and libcrypto (for https)
- glibc

At the moment, we are working on the package manager, pandora. Feel free to join in!

Good Distro to switch to?

Having used ubuntu since I was a kid (my family's desktop ran it, and so I used it), I've been wondering recently if there's any reason or advantage to changing distros (likely not for a few years yet, admittedly), and to which distro.
There aren't any special requirements, it's mainly for general use purposes.

Linux on Lenovo tab

Hey folks, I recently got a Lenovo Tab P11 and haven't found any mobile Linux distro that supports my device. However, I found this git repo claiming to install a Linux kernel for my device. However, it has some outdated functions and to compile it, I need to set some things up and I don't really know how to do it. Does anyone know an easier way to have a Linux distro on my tablet or how to install this kernel step by step please?

Which Laptop to Buy for Linux

So I've been using linux mint(on laptop) and arch linux(on desktop) since the past 6 months(loving the experience) and just got enrolled in Engineering in Computer Engineering with specialization in CyberSecurity. But I need a laptop for my college which may give good performance with linux for atleast 4-5 years. I've done some research regarding my field and macbook is too much tempting for me(battery life) but functionality wise(for my case) linux is very much better.

Idea of switching back to windows haunts me(so it ain't an option).

The big thing is most of the laptops in market come with windows pre installed and installing linux on those machines may void out the warranty, and I need a productivity type of laptop with hardware not having compatibility issues (I'veheard about nvidia gpus having issues).

My spec requirements are enlisted below:
-16gb memory (ddr4 or ddr5)
-512 gb storage
-a good processor (idk much about processors please enlighten me on that too)
-an okayish gpu (integrated one may work out too)
-decent battery life (top priority atleast 6 hours sot with linux)

My budget is INR 70-80k and also tell me about things with which I might have issues (like the warranty being void due to installing linux and stuff like that). My aim for writing all this is just to find the best options in the market which allow having linux on your laptop.

Server option suggestion question for website, requiring A Python backend, a relational database and a react frontend.

I’m what Reddit would suggest how to deploy this. It is for usage on an internal network.

The backend makes calls to several other servers. Manipulated them, stores data in a relational database and serves as a rest api for the frontend.

I was thinking of using AlmaLinux, Ubuntu or NixOS. And deploy either as Podman pod on AlmaLinux, docker on Ubuntu, or just install the components directly on the servers. Not sure what to do with NixOS.

Graphic Designing, UI/ UX ... on linux.

I am graphic designer, I know I can use wine for adobe products and it works perfectly actually, currently I am on cachyos. Works perfectly. What I can seem to get around is Figma, specifically using custom fonts on figma, I've tried figma linux font helper: https://github.com/Figma-Linux/figma-linux-font-helper

It isnt working, on both figma-linux and figma-web.
Is there any other way, its so annoying to change back to windows for one little thing actually.

--Help wanted-- Linux powered budget 24h PC

Hi everyone, sorry the post if it's not the place to post it, as I don't know where posting (and maybe someone can help me with that), I need help to build a PC that I can use at least 12h or more, but 12h building/writing code, doing something alike, as now I don't had any laptop that can do that for more than 2h, so it's pretty a challenge to do anything like that, even just reading and some audio/video playing the better battery i got is around 7~9h (that is awesome yet less that I need to), any recommendations? , I don't mind the Architecture I only mind the battery can charge in 2h~3h, or maybe by another source (dynamo, solar, etc), thanks in advance, and sorry the bad English

Just curious Linux on Android

I have an old lgv40 and using it as a DAP, no other apps used, just a player and movie players, everything still works except battery is too quick to drain, there's nothing wrong with the battery it's just small capacity to begin with.

So I wanna to strip it down, this and maybe it extend battery life a little.

Do you have any recommendations? Also, the DAC part is very important to me, so switching OS I hope I could still use the hardware.

Anyone running 9950x3D cpu on Linux distro?

Linux question only

1. How would you set up your cpu on this platform to have scheduler allocate cores in gaming and tasks correctly, or is it already cooked into a distro?

On Windows you must use Game Mode and Game Bar, and Balanced Power Saving mode, along with some additional things in BIOS

How does Linux treat 9950x3D as far as properly scheduling the CCDs in gaming and regular tasks?

Wendel from Level 1 Techs states that Linux doesn't have same issues, but doesn't explain how to set up this CPU for Linux specifically in the video.

2. What distro are you using?
