Hi, I’m searching for a lightweight Linux version for my computer. Based on your experience, could you guide me on which distributions are fast, efficient, and suitable for older or low-resource systems? Any recommendations or tips would be greatly appreciated.

I'm trapped on a desert island and want to learn Linux. How do I do it?

How would I learn how to configure, say, Archlinux if I was alone on a desert island without Google, or an internet connection?

I suppose you could just

1. Try to do what you want.
2. Fail.
3. Read -h output or the man page for the commands that you're using.
4. Try again until you succeed.

But that sounds a bit frustrating. Is there a "start here" or "introduction to Linux" man page or similar?

I am so glad that I made the switch. I really started to hate Microsoft/Windows and needed something more private. I've had so many issues in the past with Windows operating systems that I just gave up and swapped to Fedora KDE 43. I hope you guys enjoy my main monitor setup. :)

Welcome to Linux everyone!!!

I'm really loving seeing these posts about you all switching from Windows to Linux.

I've been full time Linux now since 2018. Used it off and on starting in 1994. Almost went full time in 2007.

It'll be really interesting to see how the next version of Windows will do (Windows 12 possibly) since people are removing Windows 11, you've already bought Windows 11. So it'll be interesting to see how the sales for the next version of Windows goes. I know Windows probably has a way to see how many people are currently using Windows on their computers and if they can see that now (I'm sure they can) then those numbers are probably dropping as well. Not enough to make a significant impact but it'll be noticeable I'm sure.

Discussion on what music players you use

I’ve been on the hunt for a Linux music player that gives me a similar feel to Spotify, but for my own local music collection. I already have my songs locally, I’m not looking for streaming but something that's more feature-rich.

I have been using Quod Libet which is actually great but it lacks the polished UI and “modern-app” features like an album-cover view, shuffle with ease, built-in lyrics display, etc etc

I found Wora which had what I wanted, but it seems not actively maintained and has a few bugs that make it less stable.

What local-music players on Linux do you use or recommend?

Fellow Linux users, why did you pick the distro you're currently on?

Actually wondering, most distros I saw people here using are normal. Arch, Debian, some occasional OpenSUSE or Fedora. But then there are people who use AlmaLinux or Rocky on A DESKTOP (actually saw a couple of posts like that). There are also people using some variant of BSD for some reason? All of this just makes me wonder WHY, so I'm asking this question here.

Linux mint keeps booting into a black screen after the logo.

Ive done the installation process and it told me to restart. After that this keeps happening everytime i start the PC.

1- Black screen for 2 seconds.

2- Loading with mint logo 10 seconds (ish)

3- black screen 2 seconds (ish)

4- no signal for a lil bit

5- black


No grub menu even

Where can I learn more about Linux

Im still a full blown Windows user. Ive been with MS since DOS 3.3. I want to learn about Linux and move some of my older computers over, but I know next to nothing about it. I've been doing a lot of YouTubing for a few weeks and there's just so many opinions out there about the different distress and versions that I they all sound just as good and just as bad.

Are there any recommendations on books, or specific websites, or YT/Reddit/other Social Media sites that are good resources? Maybe I need to start with a Linux for Dummies book.
