Presented today at FOSDEM in Brussels was the state of gaming on FreeBSD by Thibault Payet
Is the processor P-state driver differently written in Linux and Windows? Shouldn't they both adhere to standard specification?
windows topic might not be relevant here but just sharing the observation.
in linux, you may be already aware of intel-pstate and amd-pstate drivers which directly interface with the cpu instead of the OSes getting in the middle..
so as per the acpi spec standard, EPP (Energy performance preference) value ranges from 0-255 where 0 is full performance and 255 is full energy saving.
In Linux, setting to power saver triggers 255 EPP value which seem to work as designed (or is it?), and limits the cpu clocks max to the base clock
but in Windows, setting to 255 does not limit to base clock but still lets boost clock take place (but seems to be slightly lower compared to balanced 128 value). only way to disable boost clock is to explicitly disable boost mode in windows but not by setting EPP 255 value.
so they both apparently implement the p-state autonomous drivers differently. is that the case or there is something else going on here?
is there any views on this? appreciate the comments in advance

Are there any wallpapers you'd consider "classic" in linux/bsd spaces? I recently switched my windows box over to the old win98 clouds and the thought struck me that I don't really know of anything as distinctive as bliss or even OSX's leopard aurora. Maaaybe the one ubuntu shipped from 10.10 to 12.04-ish during the unity days or one of those geometric ones that came with plasma LTS's, but what do y'all think?

hello! for a long time now i’ve been dissatisfied with ios and android and been wanting a change. from what i looked at i’m not really sure if there’s a linux mobile version that is developed enough to actually be a day-to-day replacement that lets me chunk my iphone. is there a good options? if not then i’m working on building my own diy phone using a raspberry pi so a good distro to use for that would also help. ty

Where to donate to?
As a private desktop Linux user, who has very limited knowledge and understanding of technology, I'm aware that I'll never be able to support the growth of Linux and FOSS, other than by using it and spreading the word. I have a strong desire to support the community though and would like to contribute. As someone working in non profit full time, I know that acquiring funds is what makes or breaks a project.
I'm aware that I can donate to the distro developers/communities or to foundations. However, as someone who isn't a developer, I'm ignorant of the underlying infrastructure that maintains the FOSS community. Which brings me to my question -
What is the best way to financially support the development of Linux and FOSS as a whole? Where's the money most needed?
I hope this is the correct sub for this question. If it isn't, I'm sorry.

I've tried linux a few times, but it never fully clicked for me. I could use it but I don't really understand why so many people love it. Now I'm thinking about giving it another proper shot and actually sticking with it because of my job requirements.
