Central Post to improve Touchpad experience on Linux

Hello,

I want to create a Post here where people can share information on how to improve their touchpad experience on linux.

Personally I want to improve my touchpad settings on linux too, as it is important when using a laptop without a mouse.

Especially with new laptops that have windows precision touchpads, the difference between windows and linux gets bigger.

I would appreciate your help on creating a post that can help people like me to adjust their touchpad to their needs.

Kindd version 2.0.0 released.

Kindd is a gui for dd command that written in qt-quick.

In this new release we add some new functionalities:

1. Redesign whole app.
2. List only removable devices. (So there is no choice for users to format/delete partitions accidentally).
3. There is no need for list-devices page.
4. Some improvment in file-chooser dialog.
5. Automatic usb add/eject detection.

Termux on Android + Mosh/Ssh is fantastic.

I can access my phone from my computer without it being plugged in.

It compliments KDE Connect so well. If I want to do something KDE Connect doesn't support, I just Mosh into my phone and do whatever I want to.

Termux is already pretty great on its own, but using an Android command line in my computer is just so convenient.

Linux on Asus C302? Either dual boot or replace Chrome OS?

Hi all,

I have an Asus C302 laptop which I really like working on. Unfortunately, I need to use reference managers and either Libreoffice or Word. I have Ubuntu dual booted on an older Chromebook but when I tried to use the same steps on my Asus it didn't work. Anyone know how I can either dual boot a linux os (that will run mendeley or zotero and libreoffice) or even replace Chrome OS all together.

How much to virtualize - an update!

Hey all!

I made a post about a week ago presenting my use case and asking for some tips on how much to virtualize. I ended up going with Proxmox to virtualize everything and it is *excellent.* The resource monitoring, ease of use, and level of control I have is way better than I was expecting. I followed this process to change the repos for non-enterprise (free) use:

So far I have three ubuntu 18.04 containers running my Unifi controller, one of my VPNs, and my pi-hole. I'm really impressed. My pi-hole is completely isolated from the rest of the containers, so I can keep the ports open to the internet on the controller and VPN without worrying about my DNS server.

​

I love that everything is separated to its own IP too - my Unifi controller can now separate each container into their own download/upload statistics. I love that. It might not be very useful but it is definitely very satisfying! No more wireshark to figure out which application is eating traffic.


Even with three CTs running, my whole system is using under 1G of ram and less than 30% of one core on an Athlon 5350 APU. That leaves a lot of headroom for my next bits: NAS and Minecraft server.
