Absurd amount of ads in YouTube app
Just now I did a search in the YouTube app, only to be treated by an entire page full of ads before you see a single search result. This is new to me, what the hell? Are they actively trying to drive people to third party apps?

Why don't more brands use stock Android?
Why does almost every single company feel the need to develop their own skin on top of Google's AOSP releases?
It's been clear for a few years now that phones with stock Android consistently get atleast 1 if not 2 years of updates while most phones with proprietary skins (Samsung's touch wiz, or one ui, MiUI, and others) are almost never updated.
So if it is indeed cheaper to just use stock Android in terms of updates etc, why are companies going out of their way to development their own skin...

Why I finally switched from Android to iPhone after 10 years
Sorry for the long post. Can't add TL;DR because I cant summarize it.
First of all, I’m a big Google fan and still am. I have been using Android since the Nexus One days in 2010 and have only been using Nexus/Google play edition/Pixel phones. IMO, Pixel is the only true Android phone, everything else is just junk. So, you can see although Android is diverse, I have only one option. It’s either Pixel or iPhone. Though I’d switch to iOS I’d still use some of Google's services because they are th...

Back in the Box
After many years in the fruit microsystem, I switched to Android about a year ago. My first phone was a Note 10+ and I was amazed at Android's functionality. The quality of the phone only added to it.
Last month, a friend gave me his Pixel 4a 5G. I tried it for a week and decided to put my carrier-financed Note back in its box. Pure android is streamlined, uncluttered, and the size of the 4a 5G is just right. I wish it was water resistant and have wireless charging like the 5, but I love this ...

With Samsung recently trying to solve under-display camera performance using deep learning, at what point of computational photography is it acceptable between a natural shot and an artificially restored version of the scene?

Snapdragon 888 Failed? Another Exynos? Disappointing Gaming Performance/Power Tests from Xiaomi MI11
So we have our first Snapdragon 888 Preview through the Xiaomi MI11. It's important to keep in mind that these are early benchmarks, and you need to take these with a grain of salt. Maybe other phones have better cooling or a firmware update can help.
The performance is comparable to an Apple A13 in Geekbench, but the power consumption is up over the Snapdragon 865. In some areas, performance per watt has actually regressed.
Keep in mind too that longer periods of high temperatures means g...
