Let's take Nova launcher as an example of how to automatically manage dark theme. Nova launcher allows you to switch to a dark theme based on sunrise and sunset without needing location permission. It just uses your phone's timezone. Of course, this means that the calculation isn't that accurate, but it's still within ± 30 minutes, which I think is fine for something like automatic dark theme switching.
