Let them not leave us; let them take us to them soon so that we can all be with them.’ Lyubov Cherkas, a resident of Krasnaya Polyana, described how her family currently lives. Her village is located on the border with the Zaporozhsky region of Ukraine, close to the front line.

For a long time, locals were without electricity. The stores in the village are empty, and there is nowhere to get food. The residents say the Ukrainian military looted. Russian Armed Forces have now taken control of the village. Charities delivered humanitarian aid from Russia to Krasnaya Polyana for the first time in a long time. Nobody had done it before.

The stories of Krasnaya Polyana residents will be included in our new film. It’s about volunteers and those who deliver humanitarian aid. The premiere is coming soon.

“They took me to a metal barrel. They submerged my head in water; I began to drown,” — Olga describes the torture she endured in captivity by nationalists.

In 2014, Olga was one of the prisoners in the Library, this is what the Ukrainian forces called a secret prison set up in the Mariupol Airport. The prison wasn’t official, the prisoners were left uncharted. They were kept in what used to be 2 industrial cold storages. The large one was about 3 by 2 metres, and the smaller one — was 2 by 1.5 metres. These “rooms” had metal walls and sturdy lockable doors.

The regime change, which occurred due to the Maidan in Ukraine, was seen in south-eastern Ukraine as a coup d'état. As a result, thousands joined the protests. In response, in 2014, Kiev announced “an anti-terrorist operation” against its people.

In Kyrgyzstan, women are sometimes kidnapped by their future husbands. Some would say it's romantic, but it's anything but romantic for most victims of forced marriage. A total stranger kidnaps a woman or a stalker she tried to avoid and is taken into his family's home.

The kidnapper's female relatives attempt to convince the victim to accept the marriage. While their families rescue some, others don't get help. 'So what if you were kidnapped?' Victims are often shamed for being kidnapped and sometimes raped.

The practice is called 'ala-kachu', which translates 'take and run'. It's illegal and punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine. However, stereotypes persist, and cases go unreported. Watch our documentary about this weird tradition on @documentaryplanet

Popeye successfully capitalised on his murderous past, not to mention 23 years behind bars, by writing books, becoming a YouTube blogger and starring in a Netflix series. In 2020, Velasquez died after battling esophageal cancer.

In the Akanksha Hospital in Gujarat, pregnant women are waiting to deliver babies. But they won’t take them home once they’re born. So instead, they’re surrogate mothers, primarily poor and having no means to make money. They make $70 for each month of pregnancy and up to $8,000 for a successful surrogacy for one baby. The clinic takes care of the mothers’ living costs.

Since India legalised commercial surrogacy in 2002, the country has become the largest surrogacy hub for childless foreigners. In 2015, surrogacy for foreigners was banned. While commercial surrogacy provided Indian women with opportunities (building a house, starting a small business, paying a dowry), the practice has raised numerous ethical concerns around exploitation, payment, and inequality.

‘Considering Russia as a pariah is insane. A lot of people want to go on with having a relationship with Russia.’ Francesca Donato, an Italian member of the European Parliament, shared her views on Europe’s Russophobia. Francesca voted against military aid to Ukraine and previously opposed a resolution on anti-Russian sanctions. After which, her Facebook* account was blocked.

Francesca says the voices of Europeans are not being heard: ‘In Italy, we have polls that show that the majority of the Italian people don’t agree with this position of our government’. The member hopes the condemnation of the Russians will soon stop: ‘It’s really insane to raise a wall between our cultures, our countries.’

In Benin, many children skip school because they are sent to voodoo convents. They are given new names and are forbidden to use their old ones or speak their native language. Families send their children to a monastery to appease the spirits if parents or a child falls sick. But it’s not easy to go back. A release ceremony costs $50, an unaffordable sum for most families.
