‘Food by thy medicine, medicine by thy food’.
This is the slogan that tens of thousands of people take to the streets of Colombo, Sri Lanka’s capital, every day. The protest demanded the resignation of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. With a population of 22 million, the island state is facing a severe economic and political crisis. As a result, people are suffering food shortages, rising unemployment and shortages of medicine.
Experts say the sanctions imposed by Sri Lanka against Russia have dealt the final blow to the country’s economy. The impact of the pandemic has also adversely affected the country’s financial situation. As a result, experts suggest the country is experiencing its deepest economic crisis in its 74 years since independence.
An RT Documentary team took this footage. They are in Sri Lanka making a film about how the country is overcoming the economic crisis. It will premiere soon.

‘The idea has been pushed that cooperation with NATO itself is already a security guarantee. Well, nonsense, of course. It has nothing to do with reality’.
Political analyst and journalist Nana Devdariani argues that propaganda in favour of NATO has been carried out in Georgia for more than twenty years.
Since the beginning of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine, negative attitudes towards Russians have been flaring up worldwide. Nana says similar ideas and appeals have been going on in Georgia for several years. But, in recent months, this propaganda favouring NATO has also turned into ‘the planting of Russophobia’.
The journalist says there is no consensus among the Georgian population on this issue:
‘It’s such a narrow elite: NGOs, party, media, experts are pro-Western oriented, but there is no unanimity in the population’.

Protests continue in Sri Lanka, despite the imposition of a state of emergency. People are demanding the resignation of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
Anti-Russian sanctions have exacerbated the economic crisis, and prices in the country have skyrocketed. The cost of basic foodstuffs has more than doubled. Locals queue up for paraffin. They need fuel to cook food.
The ‘hottest’ point of the protests is near the secretariat of the head of state. A tent camp was set up there. People have travelled from all over the country. Among the protesters is Mahindi Siri, a 40-year-old Special Forces soldier. He lost a leg after being blown up by a landmine while fighting in the north. The war ended 13 years ago. He never imagined he would have to count every rupee to survive.
This footage was shot by an RT Documentary team in Sri Lanka, making a new film about how the country is coping with the economic crisis. It’s premiering soon.

‘Then [in 2014] Lugansk plunged completely into full-scale war.’
Rodion Miroshnik (LPR Representative at Donbass Peace Talks) recalls events eight years ago. First, Lugansk refused to recognise the coup d'état in the country; in response, the Ukrainians took up a blockade. For two months, the city lived practically without electricity and communications. Even the water was cut off. The referendum on the region’s independence took place in the context of an attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. More than 96% of voters were in favour of sovereignty.
Today, the LNR celebrates Republic Day with the status of a republic recognised by Russia for the first time. A flag was hoisted solemnly over the city. Russian singers Denis Maidanov, Rodion Gazmanov and Alexander Sklyar, performed in the centre of Lugansk.
For an account of the events of 2014 and how Kiev tried to subdue the region by force, see an excerpt from the documentary Donbass War: Summer 2014.
