Germans have been incensed by President Zelensky’s criticism of the German Chancellor. They thought Zelensky’s behaviour towards Olaf Scholz was unacceptable. After Germany’s Der Speigel published a review of Zelensky’s remarks, readers left many unflattering comments.

One user wrote, ‘the Ukrainian president should not behave like a teacher and dictate how and to whom Mr Scholz should talk and what relations with which states Germany should have’. Another called Zelensky, ‘a former comedian who had great success on stage until he became a good politician’. Another reader is sure the US uses the Ukrainian president for its own goals. ‘Those who send arms, like the US, are not interested in ending the war. Bringing Russia to its knees is Biden’s goal. Zelensky is his tool for that.’

‘I didn’t know techniques that would have helped me. I couldn’t prevent the rape. While Russian athletes are suspended from competitions, Ukrainian athletes are touring with nationalist flags. At an international youth boxing tournament in Hungary, a Ukrainian athlete unfurled a flag bearing the Azov nationalist battalion’s insignia.

Diana Petrenko took second place in the up to 50kg weight category. She came to the awards ceremony with a flag. Only after the organisers reprimanded her did she roll up the Azov symbols.
