Archpriest Andrey Tkachyov was born and served as a priest in the Orthodox Church in Ukraine. After he openly opposed the 2014 Maidan rally, there were several attempts made on Tkachyov's life by nationalists. The priest had no choice but to flee the country.
Attacks on the Orthodox Church in Ukraine have been going on for centuries. After Maidan, they broke out with renewed vigor. Now the process of separating the Ukrainian church from the canonical Russian Orthodox Church is accompanied by mass seizures of churches, the burning of monasteries, and priests being attacked by nationalists.
What are the origins of the split? Watch our excerpt from Ukraine: Road to Schism to take a look at the events that led to the current situation.

These Afghans don’t know how to survive the winter. Their houses have no roofs or doors, not even their children have warm clothes. People collect plastic to make fire.
There is no money to buy firewood or food. After the Taliban* came to power, the level of poverty in the country has increased, and it is almost impossible to find a job. Poverty forces people to sell their daughters. Listen to those who took such a step in the film Don’t Sell me, Mama! (2022).

🇮🇳Pravinbhai Parmar, an Indian farmer from Gujarat state, uses solar power to irrigate the crops. The man has been doing it for 6 years already and says it’s highly beneficial: ‘I was spending nearly $615 every year to water my crops, but with solar I spend nothing.’
It’s the Indian government that provided Parmar and other locals with solar panels. The model project aims to reduce gas-emissions responsible for speeding up climate change. After all, the country is the third-largest emitter in the world. Though India aims to become ‘net zero’, fossil fuels generate more than 70% of its electricity as yet. And coal is by far the largest share of dirty fuels.
For example, in Jharia, people work on burning coal layers. Listen to what their life is like in our ‘Telescope’ video below👇

🦌Here’s footage of a roe deer being miraculously saved near a village in Irkutsk region, Russia. The helpless animal got stuck on the frozen surface of Lake Baikal and would have frozen or died without food if not for a concerned family. The people saved the deer, and then transported and released it at a nature reserve.
In the Arctic, on the ice of the White Sea, people also do everything to save animals. Harp seals, for example, are at risk of extinction due to global warming. The animals give birth on drifting ice floes, which have been melting rapidly in recent years. Discover more about the cute sea creatures in our documentary Never Furget.

Josep Borrell, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, explains why the energy crisis is severe in the EU. Because of anti-Russian sanctions, Europe is no longer getting cheap energy. Electricity and gas prices have skyrocketed. Businesses began to have problems as stores, cafes, and hotels closed. ❗️🇷🇺A Soledar resident recounts the story of Russian soldiers evacuating civilians from the embattled city.🔥❤️🙏🏼
A resident of Soledar recounted the way Russian soldiers were taking civilians out of the town, shielding them from AFU snipers with their own bodies. She also talked about the Ukrainian military destroying the town and its civilians for the past six months. A Ukrainian tank was driving around the town and shooting. "It's impossible to explain this: how can you just come and bombard an ordinary apartment building or a common area?"

Energy prices in the EU have already risen so much that many businessmen cannot afford utility bills. For example, Hans Peter Kornelius, from Germany says: ‘I recently heard about a bakery, which had been doing well, and had been paying €120,000 for its gas [per year]. And now, they've received their pre-charge calculations — and they have to pay €1,200,000 per year, which is ten times as much. No small business can afford that today.’
After fuel, all other goods become more expensive. Residents of the Baltic States are increasingly going shopping in neighboring Belarus. How did the sanctions affect the Europeans, find out in our premiere, Europe Undone.

The term ‘mummy’ dehumanizes dead Egyptians - British museums.
Several British museums have stopped using the word ‘mummy’ because in their view its use ‘undermines the humanity’ of ancient Egyptians. Museums are also concerned that because of countless horror films the word has become associated with ‘supernatural monsters’. Instead of ‘mummies’, they now suggest using ‘mummified remains’ or ‘mummified human’.
‘The word ‘mummy’ is not incorrect, but it is dehumanising, whereas using the term ‘mummified person’ encourages our visitors to think of the individual,’ the National Museum Scotland in Edinburgh told CNN.
This decision sparked many negative reactions online. ‘The curse of the mummy is driving these academics mad!’ wrote one. ‘Some people have entirely too much time on their hands,’ added another. Meanwhile, some history professors called the move ‘strange’.
