Parkour trend delivers Paris darkness.
Dozens of practitioners of parkour have been creating quite a stir in Paris, climbing walls and pipes in an effort to turn off lights that stores leave on all night. This way the French athletes remind shopkeepers that the government is urging everyone to save energy.
Though the ‘Lights Off’ campaign started in France two years ago, in recent months it has become more resonant. After imposing its anti-Russian sanctions France is experiencing an energy crisis. If weeks ago people went on peaceful protests over the rising costs of living, these days the rallies have become noticeably more aggressive, to the point that the police have resorted to teargas. Meanwhile, with the French taking to the streets instead of working, the city’s infrastructure suffers: there’re problems with public transport and some gas stations were shut down.
The dire results of anti-Russian sanctions were predicted months ago by experts. In our documentary, they reveal why the European countries’ ‘weapon’ hit their own people and economy. Watch Sanctions: Boomerang Effect.

British demand Truss’ resignation amid meme storm
Just six weeks after taking office, the UK Prime Minister is facing calls to resign from within her own Conservative Party.
High energy bills, skyrocketing food prices, inflation… experts blame the crisis on poor decisions by Truss and her Cabinet that led to the country’s instability. UK markets have lost $500 billion since she came to power. Truss, however, claims the country is facing an energy crisis because of ‘Putin’s war’.
Nevertheless, Truss on Monday apologized for her mini-budget that crashed the country’s currency and rattled financial markets, but said she has no plans to resign. Still, many assume that Truss will be forced to leave office long before the next election. Net users responded to the serious news with a batch of creative and humorous memes. Have a look at the best ones in our post.
Note: If Truss resigns before the end of this year, it would make her the shortest serving UK PM in history.

In Vietnam, as the result of its lengthy war with the United States (1955-1975), children are born today with severe defects. During that military campaign, the Americans used a toxic defoliant known as Agent Orange to destroy forests where Vietcong guerrilla fighters were taking cover.
Half a century has passed, but the consequences are still being felt. About five million Vietnamese suffer from chronic diseases. Look at their stories in our clip.
Find more about the U.S. chemical weapons in the documentary Vietnam: My Orange Pain.

Canadian journalist blows whistle on Kiev bribing Western media
According to Keean Bexte, he was offered ‘thousands of dollars of dark money to push pro-Ukrainian propaganda’. He revealed the information on Twitter, and attached photos of messages he received from a Ukrainian colleague.
Bexte was to get $200 for each tweet in support of Ukraine, and others were involved in the scheme: ‘According to him [the Ukrainian], he already has other journalists on his payroll’, the reporter wrote on Twitter. He also wondered where Kiev gets the funds for this activity, and suggested: ‘Is this our own tax money being funnelled through Ukraine to buy off people to support their cause? I thought Ukraine was on the good side – why are they buying off journalists?’
Bexte also imagines what would happen if Russia was caught paying Western media for promoting their views: ‘there would be a huge outcry’. Do you agree?
Later, the Canadian portal The Counter Signal published an article revealing details of correspondence with the Ukrainian side about media bribery.

‘This government hates farmers’, ‘no farmers, no food’. With such signs hundreds of New Zealand farmers drove tractors through the main streets of towns to protest the cow-burp tax plan. Columns of farm vehicles reportedly disrupted traffic in Wellington, Auckland and other major cities.
Earlier, the government said it would impose the world’s first tax on cow burps and other greenhouse gas emissions to combat climate change. Farms became targets as animals produce methane and nitrous oxide when they eat grass and foliage.
Farmers believe the tax will make food more expensive and jeopardise their livelihoods. ‘We love our farms. That’s what annoys us. We’re painted as these bad guys, but a lot of farmers have spent generations looking after that land,’ said one protester.
While New Zealand farmers fight with their government over new taxes, US farmers struggle to find money for their businesses as equipment and fertilisers have become almost unaffordable. With anti-Russian sanctions hitting US and European countries, the cost of living has skyrocketed. How do US farmers cope? Find out in US Farm Crisis.

⚡️Liz Truss Resigns after 45 days in Office.
Truss's reign will apparently be the shortest in British history. She even broke the record of George Canning, who died in 1827 on the 119th day of his reign.
A new British prime minister will be chosen within a week. Until this time Truss will stay on.

This is what the abandoned runway of the Maicao airport in Colombia looks like. Thousands of Venezuelans have settled here.
In Venezuela, there is an economic and political crisis. On top of that, the country has been hit by one natural disaster after another and whole villages have been destroyed.
Settlements like this are not new in Colombia. There is even a whole ‘City of Women’. But it’s home not for refugees but for the victims of the civil war. Watch our film Women Built this City (2019) for the story.

In Kenya, there’s a superstition that having sex with an older woman can cure HIV and lift curses. For dozens of years, Kenyan elderly women lived in constant fear as they increasingly fell victim to rape.
The way out of the situation was unusual, but effective – grannies learned to fight back. Special self-defense classes empowered them to live confidently and stay their ground. Many say special techniques and fighting skills saved them more than once.
This is Kenya’s National Heroes Day. It’s celebrated to honour those who fought for the county’s independence and freedom. Watch our documentary Granny Fight Club about women of strong spirit who are also fighting for freedom, but in their case, from male violence.
