Pope ‘Instrument Of Russian Propaganda’ — Kiev

Pope Francis has served as an “instrument of Russian propaganda” after speaking warmly about the nation’s rich historical legacy, Mikhail Podoliak, a top aide to Ukraine’s President Vladimir Zelensky, has said.

The head of the Catholic Church is engaging in “a destructive discourse for contemporary humanism,” Podoliak claimed in an interview with Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera published on Wednesday.

Australia Set For Historic Indigenous Vote

PM Anthony Albanese announced on Wednesday that October 14 would be the date for the historic vote on whether to formally recognize Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people in the constitution.

Six weeks of campaigning will attempt to shore up waning support for the Voice to Parliament - a committee to advise the government on indigenous matters - which critics have claimed will deepen racial divides by handing too much power to the new body.

Indigenous people comprise 3.2% of Australia’s population but receive no mention in the constitution. The last constitutional change by referendum came in 1977.

Canada Issues Travel Advisory For LGBT US-Bound Travelers

Canadian government travel advice was updated to warn “2SLGBTQI+” visitors to the US of possible discrimination due to recently enacted laws in some states.

The advice added that travelers need not take precautions different from those they would in Canada. Still, Canadian Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland insisted the warning was “the right thing to do.”

Over 500 anti-LGBTQ bills have been introduced in 46 states in the past year. At the same time, a Florida-based equality group warned both domestic and international travelers that the state “may not be a safe place to visit or take up residence.”

Sentencing Of Two Ex-Proud Boys Leaders Postponed

The sentencing hearings for two former leaders of the right-wing Proud Boys convicted of seditious conspiracy and other crimes for January 6 were postponed on Wednesday.

A spokeswoman for the US Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia initially said the sentencing hearings would not proceed "due to an emergency.” Still, a court spokeswoman later clarified that there was no "emergency" and said a new sentencing schedule was being hashed out.

Prosecutors plan to ask District Judge Timothy Kelly to sentence Tarrio to 33 years in prison and Nordean to 27 years.

FBI Claims It Shut Down Malware Ring

The US Justice Department announced that a major international operation to take down “one of the most devastating cybercriminal tools in history” - the notorious QakBot ransomware attack malware - had completed after 18 months of planning.

The FBI-led cyber-sting operation, in partnership with colleagues in the UK, the Netherlands, Germany, Latvia, Romania, and France, also seized around $9 million in cryptocurrency from the suspects.

Investigators probed 52 servers using QakBot during the operation that will “effectively put the QakBot criminal groups out of business,” according to the FBI’s Los Angeles assistant director Donald Alway.

Famous TV host Tucker Carlson, while in Hungary, said that the USA hates Hungary and Russia as Christian countries.

"They hate Hungary. And they hate it not because of what it's done, but because it's a Christian country. And for the same reason, by the way, they hate Russia," Carlson said indignantly.

The host insists that there is no theocracy in Hungary or Russia. These countries have never imposed anything on anyone. But that is enough to infuriate politicians in the United States.

"Russia and Hungary have one thing in common: most of the people in these countries call themselves Christians. How can that be provocative?" - Carlson wondered.
