Hello, Monday News 💪
Spain is the third EU country in which most households are behind on their rent or mortgage payments. Rising home prices without an increase in income have caused many to have tremendous difficulty paying. This financial overload has affected 4 out of 10 families with children.
Users named Spanish bank CaixaBank the worst company of 2022. Vodafone and energy company Endesa were also ranked as the best of the worst. The bank was nominated for the first time, and the company receiving the award most often was Movistar.
A little rain and wind helped bring the wildfires under control.

Today we have a festival announcement. Spain! ⚡️
The Seville April Fair will be held at Los Remedios in Seville from April 23-29. It usually begins two weeks after Holy Week or Easter week. It's dedicated to Andalusian culture, and usually the entire week of the fair is spent dancing, drinking, eating and socializing. And what about the holiday parades!
From April 22 to 24, there will be Moros y Cristianos (literally, it translates to «Moors and Christians»), a set of festival events that are celebrated in many cities in Spain, mostly in the southern Valencian community. The celebration takes the form of a bright, noisy and colorful parade with dancing, horses and battle reenactments
A couple of useful links:
> Here is a mini guide to the festival.
> Article about the festival from Culture Trip, photos from the same place.

Proximity to the sea and to airports makes it an ideal place to live and work remotely.
Tourists in Spain spent more money last February than before the pandemic. They spent 5.326 million euros on travel and accommodation alone, and the average daily expenditure rose to 163 euros.
And as a favorite vacation destination Spanish citizens continue to choose Portugal. Domestically, Spaniards like to go to the resorts of Benidorm and Salou.

One way to save on travel in Spain
The Spanish government continues to give away free rail tickets. The program was supposed to end in the spring, but it has been extended until August 31!
You can get a free ticket at the ticket offices in the stations, in the machines, in the Renfe Cercanías app or online. You will need to leave a deposit of 10€ for short distance tickets and 20€ for long distance tickets. The deposit will be refunded if the pass is used for 16 or more trips. Isn't that extra motivation to explore the cities around you? The offer does not apply to fast trains.

Hola! 😏
Big Brother on vacation: 4 beaches in Marbella will have cameras that will analyze water quality, UV radiation and beach occupancy, and the information collected will be available to everyone in an app. It will be possible to find out the exact weather and solar radiation index, Marbella will be the first city with such a beach innovation.
Flights prices this year will increase by about 5.5%. For example, a flight UK > Spain will cost 18€, according to travel experts. The reasons: high fuel costs and stricter regulations on carbon emissions.
Forest fires in Murcia will now be monitored by plane. It does this every year, but because of the drought and unseasonably warm weather, it will have to go on duty earlier than usual, on April 16. Four separate fires broke out in 2 days in the region.

Southeast of the country, the shore of the picturesque Mediterranean Sea. Surrounded by palm trees, a nature reserve and high dunes.
2. Playa de Las Canteras, Gran Canaria.

3. Cala Mesquida, Mallorca.
Those who do not want the crowds of tourists will appreciate this bay on the northeast coast. It has a small beach, rental chairs and umbrellas, a restaurant and snack bars.

Here's Friday's news!
An ancient fortress in Spain will be saved from collapse with the help of bacteria, it is threatened by landslides. Bacteria will strengthen the soil, similar methods are actively used to repair historic buildings in France and Portugal.
In Spain, the police detained the «most dangerous and elusive» hacker in the country. They believe he is responsible for several serious cyberattacks and the development of a search engine called Udyat that steals sensitive data. They say he was identified by his IP.
Barcelona libraries will close for Easter (from now until April 10 inclusive).

Happy Good Friday! How do Spanish supermarkets work during Easter?
Check to see if you have food in your fridge for the weekend. Easter is an important public holiday, with millions of Spaniards going out of town to rest or watch the procession in Seville. Local supermarkets also go on vacation or switch to a weekend schedule. But it all depends on the region and the supermarket.
Most stores will be closed today, on Good Friday, Mercadona will close for sure.
Carrefour will have only a few stores open, but they will be open all weekend (branches in hypermarkets and Carrefour Express).
The same with Lidl, some branches will be open all Easter week, but with reduced hours (until 15).
Dia will be open from 10 am to 3 pm.
Consum in tourist areas will be open regular hours, 9am to 9pm.

All you need to know about the new eight-week parental leave in Spain 👦
Under the new family law, parents will be able to take eight weeks of leave, which can be used at any time until the child turns eight years old.
🔸 This time can be used if you need to change schools, the child needs medical attention, or the child is going through a difficult period and you want to rest and spend time together.
🔸The leave will be paid.
🔸Both parents will be able to take it.
🔸The law will go into effect until August 2024, but it may go into effect sooner. It all depends on when the government approves it.
🔸The Family Law also allows for five days of leave at work if a family member, such as a spouse, has a serious accident or illness, hospitalization or surgery without hospitalization that requires you to be at home.

A post for outdoor enthusiasts, hikers, joggers and hikers: tools needed and 2 locations to explore 🏕
Apps allow us to walk through the mountains without having to learn the word «help, I’m lost, I don’t know where I went» in an unfamiliar language. It’s all thanks to navigation and smart routes.
Wikiloc
Discover the best routes for hiking, biking, and many other types of hiking, as well as stories about them. There’s a whole section of itineraries in Spain right here.
Strava
Strava is known to many as a running app, it actually works as a full-fledged social network for outdoor sports enthusiasts. Track your physical activity scores, train, share your successes, form a community, and build routes.
Komoot
Komoot positions itself as «your road to adventure.» You can watch others’ routes and build your own, and download them so you don’t get lost in areas without a signal.
👣 Bonus: where to go hiking? So it’s not 400 km from Barcelona.
Montserrat Natural Park. A natural park with high jagged cliffs, oak forests, high mountain plains and birds of prey. A great destination for the day, and you can bring your dogs here. There are several trails of varying degrees of difficulty.
Tibidabo Mountain. Tibidabo is a mountain with a big cathedral, a Ferris wheel and picturesque views of Barcelona.
On the way you can stop by one of the oldest amusement parks in Europe. There are also several trails for 2 hours or 3.5 hours, all easy.

Tuesday's digest 📅
🛳 Authorities and residents of Barcelona are struggling with port authorities. The reason for the struggle is cruise ships bringing huge numbers of tourists to the city while most of the city is still asleep. Last Monday five liners arrived in town, and this Monday as many as eight will be arriving.
Crowds of walking tourists does not help the city to combat overtourism, so the authorities plan to limit the number of tourists a month (up to 200 thousand) and arriving liners (up to three per day). Until then, residents will have to fight for a place in the sun with 25 thousand tourists exploring the city's streets.
🔥 Asturias is gripped by a new wave of forest fires. Five people are suspected of setting fires. The head of the region Barbon has called those responsible for starting the fires «terrorists» and vowed they would face time in prison.

Our neighbor Paris has banned scooter rentals
Spanish cities are not going to do the same yet, instead the government reminds about the rules of riding.
• You have to drive carefully, without endangering other road users.
• You can't drive on sidewalks.
• It is forbidden to drive with headphones on.
• You may only park in an approved parking space.
• Only ride while wearing a helmet.
• Minimum age of driver is 16 years old.
• Cannot ride on intercity roads, highways, or city tunnels.
• Only one person can ride a scooter.
Keep in mind that the rules above are general rules. The rules of a city or municipality may differ. In Barcelona, for example, it is forbidden to ride in the Old Town, and you will be fined for parking in the wrong place. It is also forbidden to enter public transport with a scooter.
