About what's exciting: what to put in which bin 🗑
A mini-guide and reminder about trash so you don't run into a fine and an angry neighbor's stare, send a bottle for recycling, and just reduce your stress level.
There are standard color-coded recycling bins.
🟦 Blue containers are for paper and cardboard.
🟨 Yellow ones are for plastic containers and cans.
🟩 Green are for glass.
⬜️ The gray containers are for general waste.
🟫 The brown ones (which have been introduced in some, but not all municipalities) are for organic waste.
It seems very simple, but Ecoembes says there are common mistakes that almost everyone makes.
🔺 We throw cardboard in the yellow containers, not the blue ones. Why? They are made up of cardboard, plastic and aluminum.
🔺 Not everything made of plastic can be thrown in the yellow container. Often baby pacifiers and toys or kitchen utensils are put in it. Toys are better to give away or throw away in the gray container.
Ceramics and light bulbs should not go in the green container. Mirrors, ashtrays, glasses and dishes should be taken to collection points for recycling.

Happy Monday! 🇪🇸
8.1 million. What kind of figure is that? The number of international passengers registered in Spain. Most people came from England, with Germany in second place and France in third.
We are waiting for you! Catalonia is expecting a rainy week. However, meteorologists warn of storms and waves. Barcelona is likely to be hit by rain on Wednesday and Thursday.
On Saturday, a new playground opened in the neighborhood of Sants Montjuïc. It's big, with slides, trampolines and other opportunities to spend a child's energy. This is how the authorities are improving the city, they want playgrounds to be more diverse and for children to have more opportunities for physical activity in public places. In June, the park will close for a few days and install awnings that will provide shade here in the heat.

Tuesday news 🇪🇸
Residents of Barcelona face eviction as construction of the Sagrada Familia Basilica nears completion. Plans to build a huge staircase leading to the unfinished main entrance will involve the demolition of three city blocks, forcing about 1,000 families and businesses in the neighborhood to leave.
Within nine hours on Tuesday, Spain was able to fully power itself with renewable energy. All day long, wind, solar and water power powered mainland Spain. That's a record.
No more red price tags: Lidl is investing more than 50 million euros to introduce electronic price tags. This will save more than 2,900 tons of paper a year.

Continuing on the subject of dogs. How much would it cost not to clean up after your four-legged friend? 💩
Spoiler: a lot!
According to Spain's National Institute of Statistics (INE), 40% of Spanish families have a dog. In fact, Spaniards have more dogs than children: while just over 6 million children under the age of 14 are registered in Spain, there are over 7 million dogs. And this is often noticeable on sidewalks and street spaces.
According to recent estimates, up to 675,000 tons of dog feces are cleaned up each year in Spain.
The most responsible dog owners carry a bottle of water mixed with detergent or vinegar and small plastic bags. But some turn a blind eye or leave what happened to their own devices.
🧬 Dog DNA
In some places, the problem has become so serious that regions have created dog DNA databases to find and fine the perpetrators hot on the trail. Forty-eight cities are doing so, here's a list of them.
And if you get caught letting a dog do its business on the street and not cleaning up after it, you can be fined 30€ or 1,500€ (for a repeat offense, in some cities). It happens rarely, but about that below.
There are 8 cities with large fines exceeding €500. They are Madrid, Albacete, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Las Palmas, Badajoz, Cuenca, Huelva and Girona.
• In Madrid, fines for repeat offenders range from 751€ to 1,500€.
• In Barcelona, failure to clean up dog poop incurs a fine of 300€, which rises to 900€ if it happened, for example, in a playground.
• In Alicante the fines are up to €300.
• In Murcia from €30 to €300.
💶 Should you be afraid and save money for a fine?
In reality, few people actually write fines for dog feces. According to official municipal data for 2019, most provincial capitals (31) had no more than 10 fines during the year, and some cities had not fined a single person.
According to the newspaper El País, in Barcelona, a huge city with nearly 200,000 dogs, only 41 people were fined in the entire year 2022.
👮 Despite this, dog owners are obliged to clean up after their dogs. The penalty could be a fine or a sneaker accidentally stepped in by another owner's irresponsibility.

Wednesday updates 🗓
Spanish airline Air Europa will cancel more than 100 flights due to pilot strikes scheduled for May 22 through June 2. The pilots are unhappy that management is making a profit by raising ticket prices by 54% while cutting wages.
The fines for driving without a valid ITV safety passport have doubled. What is the fine? From 200 to 500 euros.

Plans for this summer in Barcelona 🇪🇸
Summer is in town, which means warm weather, al fresco dinners, the beach and walks. Where to go and what to do? There are a few ideas.
🏖 Lying on the beach
The most popular is Barceloneta beach. It is known for its lively atmosphere, lots of bars, restaurants and street performers.
A little further north is Bogatell Beach. It's quieter and has all the amenities. When you get bored with swimming and sunbathing, you can play table tennis or volleyball.
Nova Icaria Beach. Another popular beach near the Olympic Village. The beach is 415 meters long, there is a place to eat and have fun.
🎸Go to a music festival
We have a #events tag for them.
This summer is rich in music and events. There will be Primavera, Sonar, Mad Cool.
😐 It's always a good idea to go out to dinner.
At Can Majó, located just off Barcelona. Paella, seafood and beautiful sea views.
At La Flauta, located in the Eixample neighborhood. If you want to sit on the outdoor terrace and enjoy Catalan cuisine.
😎 Take a walk down the Rambla
A popular pedestrian street in the city center. To immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere of the city, listen to street musicians, watch street artists and buy some trinkets to take home.
Also check out the Boqueria Market. The Boqueria Market is one of the largest and most famous markets in Europe and is located near the Ramblas. A great place to try the local food and drink.

Spain remains one of the most favorite vacation destinations for tourists from all over the world
The fight against overtourism is only gaining momentum. Recently, some of the autonomous communities have introduced new rules for tourists.
Tourists are reminded that:
One must have enough money
And show that they can feed themselves for the entire trip before they can enter Spain.
Tourists will need to have at least 100€, for each day of vacation, and 900€ for any unexpected expenses that happen.
No smoking on the beach
Smoking is banned on all beaches in Barcelona in 2022. There is a fine for violation.
On the Balearic Islands, too, smoking is banned on most beaches. About the ban warns 4-meter banner. There are no fines yet, the authorities hope that for now there is enough sense of responsibility.
Quieter is better
Alicante has introduced regulations regarding noise pollution. Since 2019, visitors and establishments are fined between €600 and €30,000 for excessive noise, such as loud music and dancing.
This year, the rules were tightened: Now tourists can be fined for talking too loudly, turning up the music on the beach.
Restrictions on all-inclusive drinks
Drunk and noisy tourists are a big problem for the Spanish authorities and locals. That's why some cities (Magaluf, Sant Antonio and El Arenal, for example) have imposed drink restrictions in all-inclusive hotels.
What's the limit? 6 drinks: 3 at lunch and 3 at dinner.
The new dress code
Last year, several Mallorca bars and restaurants introduced new rules to make sure tourists dress appropriately.
