Montjuïc is not only the name of our editor's future indie band

It's a 173-meter hill in Barcelona. There's the MNAC Museum of Catalan Art and the Bernat Picornell Pool. It's a whole sports complex with 3 pools: a 50-meter indoor pool, a 50-meter outdoor pool and a diving pool. They are open all year round.

If you don't want to go to the museum or the pool, there are gardens and parks. And even the Magic Fountain! It's at least nice to wander around, look at the city from above and go into the castle. Here you can see what goes on in the castle. In the evening you can go watch an open-air movie, just take a plaid.

Do you like being here?

The Social Hub is a cool place and initiative

You may know the place as The Student Hotel, as it used to be called. The guys position themselves as a hub and a community - you can live here (in a hotel or in a student room), come eat, work and socialize, hold an event.

They have Spanish classes, yoga, and other classes. On Mondays they have Monday Morning Coffee — drinking coffee and socializing. Announcements of events the guys are posting on the Instagram.

News Monday 🇪🇸

Madrid is investing about 800 million euros in upscale international hotels to attract tourists «with expensive tastes». Ten years ago there were no international hotel chains in the capital. In 2021 there were 21 hotel brands in the capital, 8 of which are luxury, now there will be even more.

Spain is fully booked for the summer, despite the highest holiday prices ever. Hotels have already sold 52% of available rooms for the summer in June, in July and August occupancy will exceed 80%.

What about the weather? The whole week will be hot, especially on Tuesday. Already in some areas the temperature reaches 40 degrees, somewhere this week it will exceed that number.

5 corners of Barcelona that tourists don't get to, but that's just for now. Catch the moments, get there first

Sant Genis dels Agudells
A green neighborhood next to the Serra de Collserola Natural Park. Perfect to walk around and gawk at the monuments.

Tamarita Gardens
An oasis of greenery and tranquility at the top of Barcelona, generally a public garden around a former industrialist's residence: stone and wrought iron fence, classic statues, fountains.

Torre Baro
One of the city's crowd-free neighborhoods. One of the neighborhood's calling cards is Torre Baro Castle, which was supposed to be a hotel, but the project never materialized.

La carretera de les Aigües
A great place to get away from the hustle and bustle, enjoy the views, take a walk, and do some sports.

Parc de Creueta del Coll
A park with a large lake that was created from an abandoned quarry during the 1992 Summer Olympics. There are playgrounds for kids and you can bring your dogs here.

Big Wednesday Herald 🇪🇸

Spain has been ranked second in the «Best Country for Foreigners to Live in 2023» ranking. The study was conducted by Internations Expat Insider 2023, rating countries on weather, culture, cuisine and quality of life. First place went to Mexico.

The historic store in the center of the city has dared to do what others do not. Queviures Múrria has been in business for over 100 years, with tons of people coming in every day to look at everything, take pictures and then leave. So they decided to charge for «just looking», as much as 5€. Although the management doesn't charge anyone, it stopped the flow of people. Now people just look in the windows.

Easyjet canceled 1700 summer flights because of problems with air traffic control. Most of them were due to leave London's Gatwick Airport and travel to European airports. The cancellation will affect 180,000 passengers, but 95% of them have already been rebooked on other flights and the rest will be offered refunds.

We survived the hottest day on Earth, are experiencing a hot summer right now, and no cooler weather is in sight yet. Did you know that there are more than 200 places in the city where you can hide from the heat? 💨

That's 30 more than last year, there are such islands in 10 districts of the city. These are facilities of various formats: public spaces (indoor and outdoor), libraries, museums and gardens. They don't change the format for summer, just that it can be cooler than outside, you can go in there and catch your breath.

💦 There are also more than 1,700 drinking water fountains in the city. You can check their locations and look for the nearest one on the Fuentes BCN app.

🪀 You can also find shelter from the heat in covered playgrounds. There are 183 of them in Barcelona, most of them covered. The ones that are not yet shaded will be in the near future. This is being handled by bithabitat, which is looking for innovative solutions to reduce heat and make public spaces more comfortable.

🗺 The map of cold places itself will be right here.

How are you experiencing the heat?

Where is it so beautiful?

It's at The Miners Coffee. This specialty coffee shop, originally opened in Prague in 2019, recently had its own branch in Barcelona as well. The guys together with the designers decided to turn an empty space in the heart of Poblenou into a beautiful and quiet café.

The interior has a concept: to convey the craftsmanship and subtlety of the art of coffee production. And to create an honest and simple space that radiates serenity. The guys seem to have succeeded.
