Happy Monday afternoon! Shall we start it with some news?
The Gabriel Garcia Marquez Library in Barcelona has been named the best new public library in the world.
There is a possibility that Portugal and Spain will soon be connected by Renfe high-speed trains. Before that, however, the company will need to adapt some of its rolling stock to the new Portuguese infrastructure.
The city has a new record: foreigners now make up 23.6% of Barcelona's population. That's up 7.8% from the previous year.

Where to go so you don't spend absolutely all your money?
Found a list of such destinations and couldn't pass it by. Here are 5 places where at least something will be affordable and allow you to save a little money. For those who are just about to go on vacation.
San Sebastian
One of the most beautiful and affordable coastal cities with a vibrant culture and nightlife. It is also known for its cuisine, beaches and architecture. Despite its popularity, San Sebastian is a budget destination. Of the free activities here, there are walks on the streets and beach, inexpensive accommodation options are also available.
Valencia
A cultural city on the east coast that hosts art and music festivals. Great beaches, vibrant nightlife, fairly cheap transportation and inexpensive options for places to stay, and lunch is sometimes paella and tapas. What about leisure activities? Accommodation and transportation are known to be pretty cheap, making it one of the most affordable cities to visit in Spain. Also, meals such as paella and tapas are relatively inexpensive.
Toledo
A charming historic city in central Spain with stunning architecture reflecting its rich cultural heritage. The city offers free and inexpensive activities such as museums and strolls through the historic center.
Ronda
One of the best cities to visit in Andalusia, Spain's iconic tourist region. There's a lot of history and there are plenty of inexpensive accommodation options and inexpensive transportation. Among the free activities are exploring nature trails and hiking in the mountains.
Majorca
The largest island in the Mediterranean Sea. A popular vacation destination due to its craggy mountains, charming villages, and stunning beaches. Some areas of the island are really suitable for luxury tourism. The secret to an affordable vacation is no peak season.
San Sebastian in the photos. Agree with the selection, are there affordable vacations in these locations?

What will change in Spanish life in September?
➗ A law protecting the rights and welfare of animals has come into force. There are many points in it. For example, according to it, animals cannot be left unattended for more than 3 days, and dogs — for 24 hours, cats must be sterilized, and dog breeders now need compulsory liability insurance.
➗ Catalonia will start freezing rents in 140 municipalities if the housing market becomes «tense».
➗ Several important changes to labor law have come into force. The changes introduce a new system of hiring incentives, with a special focus on permanent contracts and vulnerable groups.
➗ On September 5, cab drivers from the largest cab drivers union will shut down downtown to protest Uber.

You probably know about Numbeo
If you like such things, but here is another similar service. It's called Expatistan, with it you can compare the standard of living in different cities and countries. We compared the cost of living in Barcelona and Paris for the post. Numbers and information are entered there by users, for example, the data for Barcelona and Paris is based on 2,249 prices entered by 322 different people. There's also a salary calculator.
The service finds that life in Barcelona is 28% cheaper than in Paris. It seems to match, what do you think?

Ever wanted to walk exactly parallel to the equator? In Barcelona, it can be easily arranged
In the city there is Avinguda del Paral-lel and it is strictly parallel to the equator. It is one of the main streets of the city, it used to be the center of nightlife, music halls and entertainment venues, and it used to be called Parallel.
Now it is just a tourist path, where you can walk, go to one of the theaters or variety shows, have lunch in a diner. What's not a plan for a day off?
