🔹In the #Zaporozhye Direction, the RF Armed Forces again tried to seize the initiative west of #Rabotino village. ⚠️The AFU held their positions. Tactical counter battles near #Novoprokopovka and #Verbovoye. It seems that for a certain period both sides "agree" on the status quo. (Fig. 1)

🔹On the #Donetsk Front, the RF Armed Forces are seeking to advance along the southern outskirts of #Novomikhaylovka. The settlement itself continued to be attacked from the northeast. Russian forces also resumed offensive actions near #Pobeda, continued on the left bank of the #Osikova River from #Maryinka and along the M-04 motorway in #Pervomayskoye. ⚠️The frontline did not change significantly. On the southeastern outskirts of #Avdeyevka, there are fierce oncoming battles. The AFU is trying to recapture lost positions in the Tsarskaya Okhota fortified area, while the RF Armed Forces are trying to expand their zone of control in the city. In the area of #Stepovoye (not to be confused with the settlements of the same name in the Zaporozhye and Ugledar directions), there are counter battles. Their intensity has noticeably decreased. It seems that both sides have concentrated on the southeastern section. (Fig. 2)

🔹In the #Bakhmut Direction, the RF Armed Forces continue their pressure on the heights northwest of #Kleshcheyevka, on #Ivanovskoye (#Krasnoye) and in the area of #Bogdanovka. The AFU are ⚠️holding positions in all areas. (Fig. 3)

🔹In the #Lugansk Direction, Russian forces were on the offensive near #Belogorovka and #Terny. ⚠️There was no advance. Tough oncoming battles continued near #Berestovoye, #Krakhmalnoye and in #Tabayevka. The RF Armed Forces ⚠️took new positions in the area of #Sinkovka. But we are not talking about a breakthrough of the Ukrainian defence in this area. (Fig. 4)

🇮🇱⚔🇵🇸Israel-Gaza Conflict: January 31-Feb 1 (Recap)

1️⃣ “As the ICJ has found, it is plausible that Israel’s conduct amounts to genocide,” US Federal Court Judge Jeffrey White said in a ruling to dismiss a civil case brought against US President Joe Biden and senior officials over their alleged “complicity” in genocide in Gaza.

2️⃣ Mohammed Monadel Herzallah, a plaintiff in the civil case, said: “We will continue to do everything in our power to save our people”.

3️⃣ Israel is “almost systematically” denying aid deliveries to northern Gaza, says Leo Cans, MSF’s head of mission for Palestine.

4️⃣ Israel’s spy chief reportedly briefed the war cabinet on a deal involving a pause in fighting in Gaza and the release of captives, Al Jazeera’s Hamdah Salhut reports.

5️⃣ Palestine Red Crescent Society reports Israeli forces “firing heavily” in a raid on al-Amal Hospital in Khan Younis; Nasser and al-Amal hospitals under Israeli military siege for days.

6️⃣ “We’ve lost a health clinic, major shelters – facilities that were supporting the people of Khan Younis,” says Thomas White, UNRWA’s director of Gaza affairs, as staff join thousands fleeing the city in southern Gaza.

7️⃣ Palestinian envoy Riyad Mansour tells UN Security Council that for the ICJ’s “provisional measures to be implemented, there must be a ceasefire in Gaza”.

At least 26,900 people including more than 10,500 children, have been killed and over 65,949 injured in Israeli attacks on Gaza since October 7. The revised death toll from the October 7 attack in Israel stands at 1,139.

🇿🇦🇮🇱 South Africa accuses Israel of defying the ICJ order

Earlier this week, Israeli special forces reportedly broke into a hospital in the West Bank, and killed three members of Palestinian armed groups. This came following the ICJ recently ordered Israel to take all necessary measures within its power to prevent acts of genocide in Gaza.

"If you destroy a hospital, you are saying injured people must not get no help. That people who need medical treatment must not have it, so, essentially you're sentencing people to a death by virtue of your activities," South Africa's Foreign Minister Naledi Pandor said during a press conference.

"The shocking thing on the hospital attack" was that Israeli forces were disguised as medical personnel and yet had "murderous intent," she added.

That Iranian government policy vis-a-vis Sunni-majority states, Israel and the U.S. has more than one side to it should not be a puzzle to anyone's intellect. However, with regard to Iran's incursion into Pakistani air space and its bombing of targets, it defied expectations. Rather than an air raid that is said to have resulted in the death of Muslim children in a Muslim country, from the viewpoint of the average Pakistani, it would have been far more appropriate for Iran to have bombed targets within the Zionist state in retaliation for the recent Kerman bombing.

A now fairly common Pakistani view is that to pacify the Iranian public, the Iranian regime most likely asked the Pakistani military-led establishment for help by convincing the Pakistan establishment that the Shia sentiments of the Iranian public would be satisfied with the strike inside the only nuclear power Sunni state in the Muslim world, a strike which would make the Shia public feel strong, thereby releasing internal pressure to attack the real culprit, the nuclear armed, Zionist entity.

For the Pakistani military dominated government, this would have been seen by at least some as being a Godsend. The fact is that the Pakistani population has long appeared to be strongly anti-establishment throughout the country. For this reason, the military-led establishment sorely needed a break from the critical eye of public attention and this was a way to do it.

In what now be seen as having been pre-negotiated, the Iranian regime not only offered a breathing space for the Pakistani military establishment by deflecting Pakistani public sentiment against its government to anger at Iran, but it also caused a distraction from what was going on in Palestine, Yemen, and elsewhere, as well as creating a dent in global Muslim solidarity. All this would have been seen as beneficial to the Pakistani military, in that they seem to have decided that Pakistan will do anything that would please American government policy makers and this surely would have.

Having seen how weak reaction had been in the Arab world and elsewhere to the bombing of Syrian targets by the Jordanian Air Force, what Iran probably did not expect was a strong reaction from the Muslim world, notably Sunni Muslim netizens from around the world, who not only condemned Shia Iran's behavior but also reminded Iran of what they saw as Iran's historical timidity and duplicity toward Israel and the United States.

As it was, the Iranian-Pakistani military game was played to its end by Pakistan bombing a settlement inside Iran in which civilians (including children) claimed by the Iranian government to have been illegal immigrants supporting the Baluchistan independence movement were killed. The unspoken message for the Iranian public was that the people killed were not Shias, but that the killing of civilians was merely a matter of Sunnis killing Sunnis. On the Pakistani side, events were portrayed as tit for tat proof that the Pakistani military would always protect Pakistan from external aggression, no matter how powerful the aggressor might seem.

Great fun and games for two militaries who both see themselves as giants in the Muslim world!! But, wouldn't it have been better not to kill children, no matter what the nationality or religion or independence movement those children's parents might adhere to?
