Reading through Nahum this morning.

Idols.

Have you ever studied what ancient idolatry looked like?

I always thought, “K, they make an idol and worship it bc they believe it’ll help their crops or give them victory in battle.”

And while idolatry is worshipping ANYTHING besides God, there was an ancient ritual where idol worshippers would do that made the deity indwell in the image.

*real quick: all these ceremonies including an oath taking by the craftsman vowing that they did not make the idol*

Ancient Egypt, Assyria, Mesopotamia, & other places all had similar rituals called “mouth washing” or “the opening of the mouth.”

The ritual differed from place to place, but the emphasis on the idol speaking is clear.

There could be lots of idols/copies of idols, but the “official” idols that were in the temples all went through this ritual.

And, after doing a bit of study, why does God insult idols so often about how they dont/cant breathe?

Because they dont/cant breathe.

And if we look to Revelation 13:15, the Antichrist is “granted power to give breath to the image of the beast, that the image of the beast shall both speak and cause as many as would not worship the image of the beast to be killed.”

Idols. Speech. Breath.

What does it all mean?

The spiritual war we are in is God (having already won the victory with Jesus Christ’s death on the cross) being challenged by Satan (who will never win, but will deceive many as though he can or has).

One way that Satan was successful in ancient history was deceiving people to believe in idols.

A critical part of the idol ritual was to get the idol to speak.

We could dive deeper in what that means, but consider the implications: man makes something & then believes the made thing has authority over him - despite how obvious that the made thing is just a made thing.

People want to believe absurdity bc it justifies them “making” a world where they are the creators.

Idols can be lots of things, but the one tell is that idolatry reflects a desire to be god.

Even if it looks stupid & doesnt make sense.

Is there a modern day equivalent to the Nazis making the Jews wear a star of David?

The spirit if identifying people according to political differences is gaining ground.

And while the Holocaust is a vicious example of human depravity restricting freedoms/liberty for people who belong to arbitrary categories as a political strategy is longstanding.

Also, when I call people “godless commies” I am first making a statement identifying people according to their theological frame and then a political frame.

Godless people will inevitably produce communism bc communism is the product of a godless worldview - so “godless commies” is actually redundant.

And lastly, to those offended/irritated by me drawing comparisons to the Nazis making Jews wear stars of David as identifying marks - understand that clothing mandate was to facilitate political engagements to certain people. Jews, by wearing a star of David, were giving visual signals to everyone else, and with reinforcing Nazi propaganda, the society accepted the premise of the propaganda, which led to specific (evil & judgmental) outcomes against Jews.

The vaccine passport is a modern-day reverse-Star of David.

Privileges/liberties are granted to those who have the proper credentials.

The FBI is now warning everybody to not download, print out and fill out your own covid-19 vaccine card, because that would mean it's a "fake" vaccine card.

I have news for the FBI. All the covid-19 vaccination cards are FAKE, because the covid-19 vaccine does NOT infer IMMUNITY!

Records about the cherry blossoms have been traced back to 812 AD by Yasuyuki Aono, a researcher at Osaka Prefecture University, using imperial court documents and diaries.

Since about 1800, the data suggest that the peak flowering date has moved from the middle of April to the beginning of April, the BBC reported.

AURORAS AND A VOLCANO: Iceland's Geldingadalur volcano is turning into a must-stop destination for aurora photographers. The latest photo combining geothermal and geomagnetic activity comes from Wioleta Gorecka standing on the banks of the iconic Blue Lagoon.

"My friend had the great idea to take a picture of the BIG THREE: the Geldingadalur volcano, which just erupted, Northern Lights and the Blue Lagoon," says Gorecka. "We were lucky. On March 31st, a little surge of geomagnetic activity produced swirls of green near the volcano's plume; both were reflected in the still waters of the lagoon. It was a wonderful night!"

Pro tip for other photographers on the Reykjanes peninsula: A solar wind stream could hit Earth's magnetosphere on April 5th. That would be a good night to try your own aurora shot near Geldingadalur.

Mysterious brain infection is making young California bears ‘fearless’ towards humans | Live Science

Infected bears are less scared of people and are struggling to survive on their own.

The bears, which are all around 1 year old, appear to be suffering from a form of infectious encephalitis — inflammation of the brain tissue that can be caused by viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasites, as well as part of an autoimmune response. But veterinarians are unsure exactly what is causing the problem or how fast it is spreading among the population. 

Symptoms include a prominent head tilt, lethargic movements, muscle tremors, seizures, walking in circles and being significantly underweight, as well as a surprising fearlessness towards humans.

The disease also doesn't appear to be transmissible between individual bears, Bryant said. This is encouraging for the rest of the population but has left researchers confused as to what is causing it.

"We have identified five new viruses from black bears, some of which are being pursued further as possible causes of the encephalitis," Munk said. "We are also working with a research lab to further evaluate whether a protozoan parasite might be the cause."

However, it is also possible that there is more than one pathogen responsible for the encephalitis, Munk said.

Crowded Train Crashes In Taiwan, Killing 50, Injuring 69 Ahead Of Holiday Weekend | ZeroHedge

Taiwanese officials said the accident was apparently caused by a maintenance truck sliding down an embankment and striking the train just before it entered the tunnel. The truck's emergency brake was reportedly not active, and police have taken its driver for questioning. "Our train crashed into a truck," said one surviving passenger speaking on Taiwan television. "The truck came falling down."

In what appears to be the worst train wreck in Taiwan's history, a passenger train crashed Friday while entering a tunnel north of the eastern city of Hualien, killing at least 48 people and injuring another 66. The crash, which unfolded at the start of a long holiday weekend, was particularly devastating since the train was packed with nearly 500 travelers. Transport Minister Lin Chia-lung told reporters 490 passengers were aboard at the time of the crash.

Taiwanese news reports claimed that many passengers were forced to stand on the overcrowded train, which amplified the damage caused by the impact since many were simply thrown across the car upon impact.
