The reason you commonly hear rioters in areas such as Portland yell "This is not the America we want" is because they seem to want something more akin to Syria.

Russia's allies are mostly wartorn/communist shitholes.
Wartorn African countries, North Korea, Some of the Middle East, etc

Ukraine's allies are what you would call 'prosperous, well-off nations' that can stand on their own two feet without having to resort to oppression or not being able to 'stand' at all.

Europe, the entire Western world, etc.
