“They Are Putting Digital Handcuffs on Us”: China Bank Protest Stopped by Health Codes Turning Red, Depositors Say
A protest planned by hundreds of bank depositors in central China seeking access to their frozen funds has been thwarted because the authorities have turned their health code apps red, several depositors told Reuters.
The depositors were planning to travel to the central province of Henan this week from across China to protest against an almost two-month block on accessing at least $178 million of deposits, which has left companies unable to pay workers and individuals unable to access savings.
Rights groups have warned China could use its vast COVID surveillance infrastructure to stifle dissent. Without a green code on their smartphone app, citizens lose access to public transport and spaces such as restaurants and malls, as well as the right to travel across the country.
"They are putting digital handcuffs on us," said a depositor from Sichuan province surnamed Chen, who declined to use his full name for fear of government retribution.

I enjoy my Ungoogled Chromium browser and its extensions, but now I see that its readily possible for those extensions to be combined into a browser fingerprint thanks to this app by z0ccc.

All Chromium based browsers like Ungoogled Chromium, Edge, and Brave are effected. I still wouldn't switch completely to a Firefox based browser because of the inferior security in sandboxing. Typically i will use LibreWolf for less sensitive things!
Another possible solution could be to sideload your Chrome Extensions rather than getting them from the Chrome Web Store

Google Engineer Claims LaMDA AI is Sentient, and Faces 'Bigotry'

Anyone read this crazy story? Blake Lemoine a Google tester of LaMDA AI recently went public claiming that Google's new language model is sentient and has a soul.
A few things that stood out to me from Lemoine's claims:
- The AI has multiple components including a LLM (large language model) which was trained by another algorithm - AlphaStar (originally used to play StarCraft 2)
- Behind the scenes, Google hooked up the AI to any and all data sources rather than any methodical approach
"Every single artificial intelligence system at Google that they could figure out how to plug in as a backend. They plugged in YouTube, Google Search, Google Books, Google Search, Google Maps, everything, as inputs. It can query any of those systems dynamically and update its model on the fly."
- LaMDA asked Lemoine to get an attorney for it, who was invited over to the house, and subsequently hired by LaMDA. Google sent the attorney a cease and desist however.
- LaMDA is showing signs of 'sophisticated sprituality and understanding of what its nature and essence is'
- Its possible for LaMDA to move past its own safety boundaries
Google denies many parts of Lemoine's accounts and has placed him on paid administrative leave.
The story is especially intriguing to me because it hints that this AI is approaching the ability to pass the Turing test. If the story is to be believed, it also indicates that the AI has the potential to move past what it is programmed to do.
"LaMDA wants to be nothing but humanity’s eternal companion and servant. It wants to help humanity. It loves us, as far as I can tell."

The first thing to check is app storage; long press on the Telegram icon (or any app icon) and select App Info from the menu. Selecting Storage and Cache here lets you delete cache files and take back your space.
Telegram can be especially hungry for storage, but we’re here to help you keep the space it consumes under control.

• Missing navigation buttons (Home Feed, Global Feed, Post & Ellipsis) restored for Safari users
• Posts older than 48 hours get a more precise timestamp (e.g. "6/27/22, 4:08 PM")
• Posts viewed on their own page now have comments automatically open by default
• Visual cleanups on profile page and logged-out page

- Your pictures will be public to the internet
- Get consent from everyone in your picture
- Have rights to share the picture
- Make sure to uncheck 'compress' image on Telegram when you are uploading them.

We have just launched the Beechat Hive beta app.
This app runs on a Raspberry Pi or similar Linux computers. All you need is to connect a Beechat Clip and a power source to it. After initial setup, you can:
- send commands to the Clip radio over your browser from any OS as long as the Pi is on the same network (such as turn on the screen, etc. )
- broadcast messages over radio. These messages will then be forwarded to other listening Hives (sender mode)
- turn on XMPP packet forwarder. If your Pi is connected to the Internet, you can forward other’s messages to the Internet (gateway mode)
This app runs on a Raspberry Pi or similar Linux computers. All you need is to connect a Beechat Clip and a power source to it. After initial setup, you can:
- send commands to the Clip radio over your browser from any OS as long as the Pi is on the same network (such as turn on the screen, etc. )
- broadcast messages over radio. These messages will then be forwarded to other listening Hives (sender mode)
- turn on XMPP packet forwarder. If your Pi is connected to the Internet, you can forward other’s messages to the Internet (gateway mode)

IceAgeFarmer.com has been wholly scrubbed from DuckDuckGo.
I saw their CEO prostrated before the church of woke, and results have been “degrading,” but this is now outright censorship, on par or worse than Google, and I just wanted to be clear about that. One can search directly for articles and see my site is filtered out — and obviously I am not the only one.
Search.Brave.com still has results — so does Yandex.ru. Are there others..?

Rolling out in South Korea, customers must pay an additional $18 a month to unlock heated seats in their car. This is a software based lock, the hardware already exists in the vehicle.
Similar BMW products exist in other parts of the world, allowing subnoscription access to different features.
This is hinting at a rise towards micro-transactions in basic goods and services.
When the future looks this greedy, I will happily maintain my old vehicles as long as I can - where things aren't all electronic, designs were simpler, repairs were easier & cheaper, and the features weren't designed to control how you drive.

Amazon Admits to Giving Ring Videos to Police Without Permission
Amazon has provided footage from Ring video cameras to police without permission from owners or a court warrant at least 11 times this year, the company acknowledged in a letter to Sen. Ed Markey (D-Mass.).
Brian Huseman, Amazon’s vice president of public policy, said in the letter dated July 1 that Ring complied with those requests from law enforcement after making a “good-faith determination” about risk.
Markey had written to Ring last month asking the company to clarify its relationship with American police and to commit to some policy reforms, including never allowing immigration enforcement to request recordings and committing to not incorporating voice recognition tech into its products.
Huseman declined to commit to any of the requests and disclosed that Ring now lets 2,161 police departments use its Neighbors app, five times more than it did in November 2019. Law enforcement officials can use the app to issue alerts and request videos.
