F-Droid Gets Faster Repo Updates with New Repository Format

Ever wait forever for F-Droid to 'load' its apps? That's because F-Droid is loading its repository index, which includes a list of all 4056 apps and their metadata (including where to connect to download them).

Good news, F-Droid has just released (March 1st) version 1.16 of the F-Droid client that uses a new repository format. The new app will determine what has changed and download the 'difference' files which contain only the changes. This means you are downloading a file 1/100th of the size.

I just tested the speed differences, the download went from 3 minutes to a few seconds.

Its also interesting to see that these latest updates were supported by a grant from the Filecoin Foundation - the same organization behind IPFS.

You know what would be an effective way to stop spam on Telegram?

Forwarding every spam message to the volunteer support or official telegram support. Feels like we are always playing whack-a-mole with banning each individual spam account, we should just be going after the channels that they create - since it feels like dozens of bots try to contribute membership towards a single channel. Ban a channel and those bots lose their reason to post. I dont think Telegram is effectively handling spam by going after channels.

Volunteer support would quickly get overwhelmed with the amount, but perhaps telegram could make a new channel for spam support.

Lastly, we setup 2FA (two-factor authentication) with Aegis, an open-source 2FA app - demonstrating the process for using both these apps by setting up a Presearch account.

Over the last year I've noticed how many people in the "Truth/Freedom" communities only experience this through the internet. They make no effort to connect with people in the real world. Also, they are content with preaching to the choir. My goal has always been to reach more people.

When I woke up in late 2009 my goal from the beginning was always to reach people, to not feel alone, and to focus on solutions. I have organized protests, rallies, built community gardens, hosted radio shows, confronted politicians, written books, produced documentaries, and yes, even run for office to reach people.

Anyone who knows my work - & understands my strategic approach - knows I have no desire to be a politician. But I know I am capable of communicating effectively & intelligently, that's not a skill all content creator/journos have. I'll continue to do that to the best of my ability.

So, yes, I am running for Mayor of Houston.I am going to be on TV, radio, and confronting the other establishment politicians, and calling out the media for COVID1984, all while I have the eyes and ears of the 4th largest city in the USA. I hijack their system to inject truth for 8 months.

If you don't support this effort or think I am a "grifter","sell out" etc (all words I have been called lately), just wait until after November and see that I am still the same person fighting for liberty I have been for 13 years.

Is the WTFPL a valid license?

Although the validity of the WTFPL has not been tested in courts, it is widely accepted as a valid license. Every major Linux distribution (Debian, Fedora, Arch, Gentoo, etc.) ships software licensed under the WTFPL, version 1 or 2. Bradley Kuhn (executive director of the Free Software Foundation) was quoted saying that the FSF’s folks agree the WTFPL is a valid free software license.

Isn’t this license basically public domain?

Unfortunately, the definition of public domain varies with the jurisdictions, and it is in some places debatable whether someone who has not been dead for the last seventy years is ennoscriptd to put their own work in the public domain.

CBDCs Could Be ‘Easily Weaponized’ To Spy on US Citizens: Congressman

United States Representative Tom Emmer believes the launch of programmable central bank digital currency in the country could strip American citizens of their financial privacy.

Speaking on March 9 at the Cato Institute, a Washington D.C.-based libertarian think tank, Emmer explained that the programmable CBDC would be “easily weaponized” as a spying tool to “choke out politically unpopular activity,” among other things:

"As the federal government seeks to maintain and expand financial control to which it has grown accustomed, the idea of the central bank digital currency has gained traction within the institutions of power in the United States as a government-controlled programmable money that can be easily weaponized into a surveillance tool.”

The Minnesota congressman introduced the CBDC Anti-Surveillance Act on Feb. 22 to halt the progress of the Digital Dollar Project, which has seen considerable developments in how it would be used since the second version of its white paper was released in mid-January.

“Recent actions from the Biden Administration make it clear that they are not only itching to create a digital dollar but they are willing to trade Americans' right to financial privacy for the surveillance-style CBDC,” he added.

Is 2023 the year we reject the spread of surveillance?

We've got to act soon because we're watching 1984 come to life in front of our eyes in places like China - and other countries are not so far behind. 

Instead of worrying about it, I'd like to take action. Here's our first draft of the #TBOT Reject Surveillance, Champion Friendly Technology pledge. 

The Mission
Prevent the spread of surveillance devices into homes, community centers, and the world at large, and spread awareness of the dangers so individuals can make informed choices when it comes to their technology.  

What We'll Do
We will prepare easy to understand materials on surveillance, this includes flyers, handouts, and stickers. These will be promoted through our networks, on social media, and in the real world. We will hear about people's experiences and their actions through the official website. We will carry out the pledge, throwing out surveillance devices and transforming our use.

The Pledge
The pledge consists of the following, broken up into 2 parts - rejecting surveillance / championing friendly technology. 

Reject Surveillance

I will share my thoughts with my neighbors & community.
I will not comply with facial recognition, digital surveillance or support companies & organizations that use it.
I will rid my home of surveillance technology.
I will minimize use of big tech and telecom.
I will reject CBDCs & will not KYC

Champion Friendly Technology

I will decentralize & encrypt my communications.  
I will own my data.
I will use private currency & exchange
I will free my phone and computer with transparent tech

Goals for 2023
Get rid of 10,000 camera surveillance devices in 2023
Get rid of 10,000 smart-home listening devices in 2023
Transition 5,000 users to degoogled phones
Transition 5,000 users to Linux laptops
Develop & educate others on an self-contained open-source security camera solution

Kremlin tells officials to stop using iPhones

"At a Kremlin-organized seminar for officials involved in domestic politics, Sergei Kiriyenko, first deputy head of the presidential administration, told officials to change their phones by April 1, Kommersant said, citing unidentified sources.

“It’s all over for the iPhone: either throw it away or give it to the children,” Kommersant quoted one of the participants of the meeting as saying. “Everyone will have to do it in March.”

President Vladimir Putin has always said he has no smartphone, though Peskov has said Putin does use the Internet from time to time."

Putin may not use a smartphone, and neither does our Cory Morningstar.

Personally, I am about to embark on a "Third Way": a de-Googled repurposed smartphone which does not send data back to Google or anyone else.

I also have a non-smart Nokia which use when I want a break from social media and the internet.

So it's 3 phones for me: a "normal" one which leaks data everywhere, a private "Above" smartphone, and a non smart Nokia which is great for walks in nature.

If anyone is interested into looking at Above phones as an option, below is the link. They also ship from the UK so if you are not in the US make sure to drop them a line saying you are UK based. It takes a while to get used to a new operating system so I recommend the transition from the old data leaky smartphone to the new de-Googled and de-Appled smartphone to be slow, and to use both in parallel during the transition, which I am still doing as I am still very much a beginner at this.
