What is OpenStreetMap?
⚡️ @takebackourtech | SOURCE
Working on a very important video this week on mapping - and of course we will be covering OpenStreetMaps.
If you aren't using it yet for personal navigation, you should try it - you would be surprised at the Points-Of-Interests it can pickup, thanks to the million+ contributors.
https://www.openstreetmap.org/
OpenStreetMap is a free, editable map of the whole world made by people like you. It was started in 2004 in the UK, out of frustration with the lack of availability of good map data that was free to use.
OpenStreetMap includes data about roads, buildings, addresses, shops and businesses, points of interest, railways, trails, transit, land use and natural features, and much more.
The map is created and maintained by nearly 5 million registered users and more than 1 million map contributors in every country in the world, using free tools and software. The data is used by local people, volunteer groups, companies, governments, software developers and more.

^^ A perfect example of how tech executives have their privacy protected while their companies happily hand over everyone elses data in subpoena's and warrants.
This excerpt is particularly interesting:
'The Government made good-faith attempts to obtain an address for Larry Page, including hiring an investigative firm to search public records databases for possible addresses,' read the filing.
'Our process server attempted service at the addresses identified by our investigative firm, but discovered the addresses were not valid for Mr. Page.'
'In these circumstances, the Court should in the interest of securing just and expeditious resolution authorize the Government to provide alternative service by serving Mr. Page by service upon Alphabet Inc.'s registered agent.'

US Virgin Islands Can’t Find Google Co-Founder Larry Page To Subpoena Him in a Lawsuit Against JP Morgan Chase for ‘Enabling Epstein’s Sex-Trafficking Ring’ – As Prosecutors Try To Reach Him Through Parent Company Alphabet
The US Virgin Islands is unable to subpoena Google co-founder Larry Page over potential ties to Jeffrey Epstein because he cannot be physically located, federal court filings reveal.
A motion filed by the attorney general for the US Virgin Islands said investigators tried to identify a physical address at which Page, 50, could be personally summoned to appear in a court.
After identifying four possible addresses, none of which were 'valid', prosecutors are requesting the federal government allow Page to be summoned via Alphabet, Google's parent company, as he is still a member of its board.
The motion to subpoena Page by 'alternative' means was filed last Thursday and makes up part of a case in which the Virgin Islands alleges JPMorgan facilitated Epstein's sex trafficking ring by handling his payments to recruiters and victims.
Page's whereabouts are largely unknown, though he was said in December to have spent the bulk of the COVID pandemic on one of his growing number of private islands - some of which are within the US Virgin Islands.
Page purchased Hans Lollik and its smaller neighboring island, Little Hans Lollik, in 2014 for $23 million.

Department of Defense Wants To Develop "New Breakthrough Technologies" without Congressional Pre-Approval or Reporting Requirements
⚡️ @takebackourtech | SOURCE
Originally reported by The Debrief:
Military officials recently testified in support of a Pentagon proposal that would allow it to spend up to $300M on new programs without congressional pre-approval.
To initiate a new program, the Secretary of Defense would have to certify there was “a compelling national security need,” which required the leveraging of an “emergent technological advancement” or to “provide a rapid response to an emerging threat.”
—
DoD officials seem to be very shaken by China's technological advancement. A bizzare comment by Dr. Kirkpatrick - director of the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) indicates that the DoD thinks that China and Russia could be behind "Unidentified Aerial Phenomena", or UFOs.
While the US people face tremendous challenges, these out-of-touch officials plainly show they're not interested in anything except the pursuit of war and shielding themselves from public awareness / accountability.

Indian government gives itself the power to “fact-check” and delete social media posts
Journalists, opposition parties, and advocacy groups are worried what this “absolute power” means for press freedom in India
The Indian government on April 6 announced a state-run fact-checking unit that will have sweeping powers to label any piece of information related to the government as “fake, false or misleading” and have it removed from social media. The country has tweaked its tech rules that now require platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to take down content flagged by the fact-checking body. Internet service providers are also expected to block URLs to such content. Failure to comply could result in the platforms losing safe harbor protection that safeguards them from legal action against any content posted by their users, said India’s minister of information technology, Rajeev Chandrasekhar.
“The amended rules now also make it obligatory on the intermediaries to not to publish, share or host fake, false or misleading information in respect of any business of the Central Government. [This] fake, false or misleading information will [be] identified by the notified Fact Check Unit of the Central Government,” the government said in a press release.

👩👦@takebackourtech
I want to take the time on this quiet Sunday to express sincere gratitude for all of the mothers in our lives. Thank you for the sacrifices you've made and the strength, patience, and love you've shown us all. ❤️
Even though my mom envisioned a different path for me, she was there for me when I quit my job and exited the mainstream, supporting me in uncertain times and the early stages of my company. Not to mention keeping me extremely well fed. 😋 Thanks mom!
I could never repay you but maybe a kitchen remodel will get it started. 👷
Happy Mothers Day!

A new report from Sapien Labs analyzed the results of a mental-health survey with ~28,000 18-24 year olds. They looked at the relationship between what age they first got smart phones and a Mental Health Quotient (MHQ) calculated through a mental health assessment (Global Mind Project).
The relationship between mental wellbeing at age 18-24 and age of first smartphone acquisition remained significant, even in those with no traumatic or adverse childhood experience.
This included the areas of 'social self' (how we compare to otheres), mental function, mood & outlook, adaptability, suicidal thoughts, aggressions, and detachment.
Read the full report.
The data also shows that females were impacted far more severely than their male counterparts, with MHQ scores 20-25 points lower on average.
We all intuitively are aware of the negative health effects of tech on young people. Seeing it quantified is shocking.
Its also important to take a closer look at what exactly on the smart phone is contributing to these mental health issues. In my opinion, its not just phone calls & texts - its social media that's the major source of the problem. I know I've felt my mental health improve dramatically ever since I left those platforms.
Even as someone who promotes alternative privacy phones - I am in total support of waiting until high school to give children smart phones. And more importantly, we need to take a closer look at the content, apps and algorithms that are damaging younger people and educate on ways to have healthier relationships with tech & social media.

A new report released by The Intercept shows how law enforcements get a real-time feed to activism & protests.
In this specific case the U.S Marshals service received updates on abortion protests.
Internal emails show that the U.S. Marshals Service received regular alerts from Dataminr, a company that persistently monitors social media for corporate and government clients, about the precise time and location of both ongoing and planned abortion rights demonstrations.
The emails show that Dataminr flagged the social media posts of protest organizers, participants, and bystanders, and leveraged Dataminr’s privileged access to the so-called firehose of unrestricted Twitter data to monitor constitutionally protected speech.
—
It would be interesting to see the raw results of the FOIA request and to see how many health freedom protests were included in reports.
From this report, we see that law enforcement has tools to monitor platforms like Twitter & Telegram, that they monitors the names of prominent officials, and is aware of when and where events are occurring.
Its another reminder to keep your serious change-making in the private.

U.S. DOJ's Crypto Enforcement Director Promises Crackdown on Illicit Behavior on Exchanges: FT
Eun Young Choi said the DoJ is targeting crypto exchanges that allow "criminal actors to easily profit from their crimes and cash out,"
The U.S. Department of Justice's (DOJ) head of crypto enforcement has promised a crackdown on illicit behaviour on trading platforms, the Financial Times (FT) reported on Monday.
Eun Young Choi, director of the National Cryptocurrency Enforcement Team (NCET), said the DOJ is targeting crypto exchanges that allow "criminal actors to easily profit from their crimes and cash out," as a means of fighting crypto crime which she said has grown "significantly" in the last four years.
Choi added that the department's focus is on businesses that sidestep anti-money laundering or know-your-customer rules or who do not engage in thorough compliance and risk mitigation.
