Review ordered after "fears of bias in 'Low Traffic Neighbourhoods' research"

Review by Department for Transport after "independent" LTN review conducted by Prof Rachel Aldred - trustee of London Cycling Campaign which campaigned strongly for LTNs.

Another part of same study by Sustrans - a controversial charity which has received £millions from numerous councils to help create LTN schemes.

Prof Aldred "worked closely with Dr Anna Goodman, an academic recently exposed for ripping down an anti-LTN poster in a shop" - so no doubt completely unbiased on the issue!

Locals are generally very much against LTNs.

Many were brought in by "stealth" during Covid or after completely ignoring negative local consultation results.

Councils are conflicted as LTNs generate massive £££.

We argue all LTNs should be scrapped subject to local referendum.

ULEZ: Newly revealed private emails show Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan tried to silence scientists who found ULEZ benefits were almost non-existent...

...while getting Imperial College department he paid £800,000 from public funds to go on media offensive in support of scheme.

The Telegraph reports: Imperial College team led by Prof Frank Kelly “paid at least £802,958 by Khan’s office since 2021, including £45,958 for report on the “future health benefits of mayoral air quality policies” widely cited by Mayor despite not being peer reviewed.”

Khan’s team weren't happy with Imperial when a separate team published a study finding the original ULEZ had “cut nitrogen dioxide by less than 3% & had insignificant effects on ozone and particulate matter.”

So they contacted Kelly about it.

Khan deputy Shirley Rodrigues' response was to partly write a statement for Kelly to issue.

This stated that ULEZ had helped to “dramatically reduce air pollution” - in stark contrast to the study.

Then, in Feb this year, when purported air pollution death figures quoted extensively by Khan were challenged in the media, Khan's City Hall asked Kelly to complain about the coverage & go on a media offensive in support of ULEZ.

“As always, I’m happy to fight back” replied Kelly - including agreeing to go on a "friendly" radio show lined up with Labour MP David Lammy, and even asking the Mayor’s office for a “form of words” he could use to push the line on ULEZ.

Then in June, Kelly was behind a public letter to Rishi Sunak, “alleging politicians were ‘not believing the science’ on air pollution. Six of the signatories were part of Imperial team, but did not disclose they were being funded by the Mayor’s office.”

Is it “science for hire” at Imperial College?

Sounds a lot like it.

Mark Harper & Department for Transport: this has gone too far.

Time to do right thing now & #StopULEZ

This dishonest, undemocratic cash grab just gets worse & worse, the more public learn
