FRIDAY: Assisted Suicide Bill – Protest Outside Parliament, 9am - 2.30pm

Pls register at: https://togetherdeclaration.org/events/as-bill/

This Friday 13 June will be a key day around the Assisted Suicide Bill (formally the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill 2024-25)

It’s when Parliament meets for the second part of the report stage for the Bill – and may even coincide with the all-important Third Reading vote by MPs

We invite those who have concerns about this Bill to attend a protest gathering on the day

Please register at the link – there’s no cost but by registering you help us to keep you in touch with important updates about the event

It’s often said that no one who’s watched a loved one in pain could oppose the Assisted Suicide Bill. It just isn’t true.

Many people have endured exactly that heartbreaking experience and still have serious, principled concerns about this Bill.

Florence Eshalomi MP describes here how she cared for her mother, who had Sickle Cell Anaemia.

She says: “As a teenager I would be by her side, when she was in excruciating pain.”

Despite this, she is against the Bill, arguing “we should be helping people to live comfortable, pain-free lives on their own terms, before we think about making it easier for them to die.”

The vote could be as soon as Friday 13 June - and will be very close.

Even if you support the principle of assisted dying/suicide, this rushed and dangerous Bill is not the way to introduce it.

MPs vote - probably on Friday - so please contact yours today using our free online tool: https://together.eaction.org.uk/asbill

Serious concerns include:

Weakened Safeguards: Protections for vulnerable people have been removed or weakened, increasing their risk of coercion

Lack of Oversight: A vague panel replaces judges, raising concerns about spotting coercion or assessing mental capacity

Hospice Impact: Hospices may be forced to allow assisted suicide or lose funding, threatening care for the dying

Profit Risks: The Bill allows for-profit companies to offer assisted suicide, risking exploitation

Harmful Message: Combined with care cuts, the Bill sends a message that vulnerable people are a burden

Unclear Legislation: The Bill has changed significantly since the last MP vote, removing safeguards and leaving key details uncertain

If you share any of these concerns, please use our tool to contact your MP today: https://together.eaction.org.uk/asbill
