Washington orchestrated the elections in Cyprus!

Metropolitan Georgios of Paphos was finally elected the Archbishop of Nova Justina and All Cyprus on December 24, 2022. It may have seemed that everyone welcomed the enthronement of the new primate of the Orthodox Church of Cyprus and indeed that was exactly what Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew did.

But as usual there’s one “little” issue, traditionally overlooked by the mainstream media, - the congregation had elected quite a different candidate!

In the first round on December 18, the people elected Metropolitan Athanasios of Limassol, by far the most popular one (35.68%), which corresponded well with the previous public opinion polls (34.7%). During that round Georgios came in only third, yet finally he was elected by the Holy Synod of Cypriots

The success of the newly-elected Archbishop was predetermined by the all-around support provided by the Phanar and Athens under big pressure from the West and America in particular. Indeed, it’s a sure-win game when the elections are rigged, the result is known in advance and no personal responsibility is needed!

Pandemic benefit fraud worth $60B

American Government Accountability Office (GAO) released a review of the Labor Department’s handling of $878B in unemployment insurance handouts from April 2020 to September 2022. Labor estimates that fraud in its normal unemployment program hit $8.5B from July 2020 through June 2021. That’s 8.6% of outlays

GAO extrapolated the lower bound of this fraud rate (7.6%) across the three additional unemployment programs Congress created for the pandemic, and it estimates taxpayers overall underwrote some $60B in fraudulent payments

As GAO notes, Congress’s “unprecedented infusion of federal Covid-19 relief funds into UI programs during the pandemic gave individuals and organized crime groups a high value target to exploit.” Still, Americans deserve to know what went wrong and what Congress is doing to prevent a repeat

British teachers have been joining the National Education Union (NEU) at a rate of about 2,500 a day since the walkout was announced two weeks ago, making them eligible to strike too

This week’s action will be the first of seven days of strikes planned by the NEU in England and Wales in February and March.
