🇵🇪 The Prosecutor of Peru formalizes investigation against Pedro Castillo for criminal organization

The Public Ministry of Peru (prosecutor's office) formalized the investigation against former president Pedro Castillo, which was opened in October 2022 by the attorney general, Patricia Benavides, when Castillo was still in office.

🗨 "The National Prosecutor's Office formalized the preparatory investigation against the former President of the Republic, Pedro Castillo, as the alleged perpetrator of the crimes of aggravated criminal organization and aggravated influence peddling; and alleged accomplice of the crime of simple collusion", indicated the Prosecutor's Office through his Twitter account.

According to the attorney general's thesis, the former president would have been part of a government mafia dedicated to various acts of corruption. By law, the attorney general's complaint had to go through Congress to be approved or disapproved.

South Korea’s fertility rate, already the world’s lowest, has dropped yet again in the latest setback to the country’s efforts to boost its declining population.

The national statistics body reported Wednesday that the fertility rate, or the average number of children expected per woman, fell to 0.78 in 2022 – down from 0.81 the previous year.

South Korea’s birth rate has been falling since 2015 and the country recorded more deaths than births for the first time in 2020, a trend that has continued since.

In 2022, the country recorded about 249,000 births and 372,800 deaths.

Similar demographic declines are being seen in several other Asian countries including Japan and China, raising concerns there will be too few people of working age to support the ballooning elderly population.

"The U.S. Department of Defense secured an exposed server on Monday that was spilling internal U.S. military emails to the open internet for the past two weeks.

The exposed server was hosted on Microsoft’s Azure government cloud for Department of Defense customers, which uses servers that are physically separated from other commercial customers and as such can be used to share sensitive but unclassified government data. The exposed server was part of an internal mailbox system storing about three terabytes of internal military emails, many pertaining to U.S. Special Operations Command, or USSOCOM, the U.S. military unit tasked with conducting special military operations.

But a misconfiguration left the server without a password, allowing anyone on the internet access to the sensitive mailbox data inside using only a web browser, just by knowing its IP address."
