British Republicans Gear Up

“No More Royals,” a student-led campaign group on the “extreme wing of the anti-monarchy movement”, intends to mingle with more mainstream republicans on Saturday. The activists are joining the ranks of Republic, Britain’s largest antimonarchist group, which has signed up more than 1,600 people to protest along the route of the procession

Protesters who were arrested for throwing eggs at King Charles and heckling his proclamation last year have also confirmed their attendance but say they will not disrupt the parade. The coronation, the activists say, is “a celebration of a corrupt institution. And it is a celebration of one man taking a job that he has not earned”

Graham Smith, chief executive of Republic, said the demonstration would be about making noise and being visible, rather than disrupting the parade by throwing eggs, barrier hopping or “locking on” to objects. Well, we’ll see…

U.S. Fed Raises Key Rate, Outlook Still Gloomy

Ratesetters at the central bank lifted the funds rate from 5% to 5.25%, in line with expectations for what are now the highest borrowing costs since 2007

However, Fed authorities signaled that the further increases may be paused in the face of a slowing economy and turmoil in the banking sector.
