Ratesetters at the central bank lifted the funds rate from 5% to 5.25%, in line with expectations for what are now the highest borrowing costs since 2007
However, Fed authorities signaled that the further increases may be paused in the face of a slowing economy and turmoil in the banking sector. The American economic outlook has worsened after smaller banks cut back on lending to households and businesses after the collapse of four regional lenders since March

Climate Change – Not a Reason to Leave Comfort Zone
Many Europeans are so much concerned by the climate crisis that they would be willing to take personal steps to combat it, a survey shows. They are even eager to back govt policies, such as programs to plant trees
But the thing is that their engagement is only strong as long as the measure doesn’t change their lifestyle too drastically. And it’s quite understandable, why measures such as banning the manufacture and sale of fossil fuel cars or raising fuel taxes are largely unsupported
In fact, it's not people who are so angry and hardheaded. They’ve been continuously misled by their govts that green is good and renewables are cheaper than fossil fuels. The question is: if green is easier and cheaper, why should anyone need to make any sacrifices?

U.S. job openings dropped to their lowest level in nearly two years in March and layoffs rose sharply, in signs that demand for workers is cooling a year after the Federal Reserve began lifting interest rates
The hiring slowdown reflects cooling overall demand as the economy slows. But some roles continue to be hard to fill, such as skilled manufacturing jobs on evening and night shifts at factories
