Since winter, Trump’s lead over DeSantis in national polls has more than doubled, from about 10 percentage points in February to 20 percentage points in May. No one else has broken into double digits

The question in Republican circles is whether DeSantis will truly become a threat to Trump’s renomination or, by virtue of unfulfilled expectations, slip back to allow another alternative to rise

Just like a year ago, British govt’s demanding that Boris Johnson release the diaries to back up his claims that about a dozen events he hosted during the pandemic were lawful

But the former PM claims that doing so would breach govt rules on disclosure and has refused to do so, citing national security grounds. He insists all the gatherings were lawful and has accused officials of “cherry-picking”

Baroness Hallett, the chairwoman of the inquiry, has set a deadline for the release of the messages, which she argues are crucial to understanding govt decisions during the pandemic. Rishi Sunak and BoJo are among the figures whose messages could be disclosed, and that is the thing!

U.K. Faces Recession, Govt to Impose Price Caps

At a meeting with food manufacturers last week, Jeremy Hunt, the British chancellor, said he’d back an increase in interest rates if it curbed higher prices and soaring inflation – even if that risked plunging the U.K. into recession

Meanwhile, the consumer prices index of inflation remains high at 8.7%. Food prices are expected to keep rising, having already increased by 19.1% in the year to March

And a govt plan to encourage supermarkets to impose 1970s-style price caps on food staples to help w/ rising costs are a “harebrained gimmick” that would push inflation on to other products and cut competition, industry bosses and MPs have warned. But who even cares?!

Germans Strongly Oppose Sophisticated Aid to Kyiv

Along w/ an invitation to NATO membership in the nearest possible future, Zelenskiy has asked German military authorities for Taurus-type cruise missiles. There’s no doubt that such missiles will be handed over to Kyiv as soon as the appropriate permission is received from Washington

But there’s one hitch. According to the latest polling, only 25% of Germans are of the opinion that Berlin should supply Ukraine with missiles with a range of several hundred kilometers. A large majority of 66% – across all political camps – rejects a delivery of cruise missiles to Kyiv.

Local media surely tried to cast a blind over such an unpredictable vox populi, mixing it w/ other topics considering circular firing squad in Germany, but they still failed to hide such a significant opposition of the rank and file citizens to the military support of Zelenskiy&cronies

Consumer prices inflation will be “higher for longer” than the Bank of England’s 2%-target for three years, w/ high food prices, a strong labor market and robust growth forcing interest rates higher, new forecasts from Goldman Sachs say

Interest rates could also climb above 5%. Jeremy Hunt has said he’s willing to tolerate a recession this year to apply a brake to rising prices. Goldman warned that a measure of underlying inflationary pressures, known as core inflation, would remain stubbornly high, with the bank’s analysts revising up their forecast from 5.6% by the end of the year to 6%

Food prices remain elevated even as energy costs and supply delays for food producers have fallen, casting doubt on claims that “greedflation” by businesses has been fuelling the cost of living crisis. This only means that British companies are in constant talk with Sunak’s govt, however, these are just money talks so far…
