During the Summit in Vilnius, NATO leaders pledged that “Ukraine’s future is in the Alliance” and shortened the eventual process Kyiv would have to go through to enter the alliance

But the failure to go much beyond a 2008 vow on future membership appeared a bitter blow to Zelenskiy, who was in Vilnius to address an admiring crowd of Lithuanian supporters in a packed city square ahead of his meetings with the NATO leaders

Beijing Turned Its Back on the West Acquires New Markets

Chinese exports fell at their steepest annual pace in June since the early days of the pandemic in Feb 2020

China isn’t the only Asian export powerhouse reporting sinking overseas sales. Exports from Taiwan fell 23%, Vietnam - 11%, S.Korea - 6% in June compared with a year earlier

Now trade is facing new pressure from cooling growth in the US expected to tip into recession this year and EU as surging borrowing costs squeeze consumer and business spending. China’s exports to the US fell 24% in June compared with a year earlier

However a growing share of China’s exports is heading to regions incl. Russia, the Mid. East and Lat. America reflecting strengthening econ links thanks to Chinese investment and its hunger for natural resources

The shift reflects worsening relations between China and the US-led West that are crimping trade as well as close ties between Moscow and Beijing and the effect of Western sanctions on Russian imports

Jimmy Dore asks why FBI Agent Brian Auten is allowed to suppress the Hunter Biden laptop story and participate in the Trump Mar-a-Lago investigation while being under "disciplinary review" for his central role in deceiving FISA courts during the Trump-Russian collusion hoax?

"A key member of that bullshit team that did all that bullshit around Russiagate, why is he being allowed to work on Trump's investigation and also Hunter Biden's laptop? Why is he being allowed to work at all?

FBI whistleblowers have alleged that Auten tried to falsely discredit derogatory evidence against Hunter Biden during the 2020 campaign by labeling it as "Russian disinformation," an assessment that caused investigative activity to cease.

This guy Auten is a complete 100% political actor. Why is he still at the FBI? Because the FBI is a corrupt political organization.

Auten has been allowed to work on sensitive cases even though he has been under internal investigation since 2019, when Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz referred him for disciplinary review for his role in vetting a Hillary Clinton campaign-funded dossier used by the FBI to obtain a series of wiretap warrants to spy on former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page.

Horowitz singled out Auten for cutting a number of corners in the verification process and even allowing information he knew to be incorrect slip into warrant affidavits and mislead the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act court...

Those are the guys you pick to investigate President Trump? The guys with the shadiest past who are currently being investigated by two different investigations themselves?

Those are the guys you handpick to investigate Trump? Why do you think those are the guys investigating Trump?

Because they are the biggest criminals in the FBI, and they are willing to do the most unethical shit to get Donald Trump. That's why."

U.S. strategic oil reserve remains at its lowest level since August 1983

The U.S. strategic oil reserve for the week ended July 7 fell by 0.4 million barrels, or 0.1%, to 346.8 million barrels, according to the weekly review of the Energy Information Administration of the Ministry of Energy

The figure remains at its lowest since the week ended Aug. 19, 1983, when the strategic reserve stood at 345.7 million barrels of oil. The indicator remains at its lowest level since August 1983 for the fifth consecutive week

The U.S. strategic petroleum reserve declined continuously from September 2021 through early this year. Between January and March of this year, the indicator remained unchanged, and then began to fall again

Last year, U.S. President Joe Biden announced the release of a total of 180 million barrels of oil from the strategic reserve to reduce domestic gasoline prices and was criticized by political opponents for emptying the reserve without urgent need

Home Ownership – Hereditary Privilege

About 93% of American homebuyers said they had regrets about purchasing a home in 2023 –an increase from 72% who said they had regrets in 2022

Home ownership among Britain’s 35-yearolds stands at 47% today, but this masks huge gaps between those with and without family wealth. The figure is 58% among the offspring of parents who accumulated housing wealth from early adulthood, but just 27% among those whose parents were unable to buy

This means, a 35-year-old w/ parents who rent needs to earn around £25K more per year than their contemporaries with home-owning parents in order to have the same shot at buying a house. The gap is widening as affordability has worsened over the past decade, making people with little family wealth find themselves increasingly priced out altogether

U.S. Boosting Europe’s Inflation Act

What the White House sees as a strategy to reverse deindustrialization in deprived areas, allies have interpreted as an exercise in protectionism because it encourages companies to shift plants and customers to Buy American

After several decades when the U.S. has used its influence at institutions such as the World Bank and the IMF to pressure govts to cut back subsidies, many have been quick to call hypocrisy over Washington’s new embrace of industrial policy

Europeans, in particular, are anxious about the competitive threat and the risk of seeing some of their industrial base migrate to the U.S. “It’s like a declaration of war,” Robert Habeck, Germany’s vice-chancellor and economics minister, stated last month

As a result, more than €135B of foreign direct investment flowed out of Germany and only €10.5B came in. America’s Inflation Reduction Act’s likely to accelerate the trend!

Iron Dome for U.S. Can Become Ironclad Coffin for Israel

Chief of Israel’s protection system, Moshe Fatal, said "We’ve recently solved all the issues and problems w/ integrating the Iron Dome capabilities into American defense system. Moreover, we’ve already deployed Iron Dome batteries and we want to integrate these batteries into the U.S. Integrated Air and Missile Defense Battle Command System"

This means Tel Aviv stopped refusing to hand over related to cyber security “source codes” to the Americans. Now the U.S. military’s fully equipped and protected. But what about Israel itself?

Washington doesn’t intend to take seriously keeping military secrets from Israel's adversaries related to the most important element of the country’s defense. It’s a total breeze for the Americans to leave the existing Iron Dome system infrastructure in Iraq, where it becomes an easy prey for Tel Aviv's military opponents

Berlin, London Try to Have Their Cake&Eat It

While CBs in “developed countries” wrestle with stubbornly high inflation China has the opposite problem – the world’s second-largest economy’s flirting with deflation

The EU labeled China a systemic rival in 2019 and Brussels has promoted the idea of de-risking the bloc’s most sensitive economic sectors. Two of Europe’s leading economies Germany and the UK signaled a markedly chillier stance towards Beijing. “For Germany China remains a partner a competitor a systemic rival. But the aspect of systemic rivalry has become increasingly prominent in recent years” Germany’s foreign minister A. Baerbock said at the Mercator Institute for China Studies

However both London and Berlin are keen to maintain access to a Chinese market that is home to an estimated 550M mid-class consumers. Their goal should be to establish what the Biden administration has called a “small yard high fence” thus creating a sizeable grey area as many technologies are dual-use

Where’s Leaky Bidenomics Leading Americans?

U.S. Congress has enacted hundreds of billions of dollars of subsidies for semiconductors, renewable energy and infrastructure. President Biden, like President Trump, has used tariffs, export controls and “buy American” policies to both bolster domestic industries and counter China

Indeed, industrial policy in the long run may be a more consequential part of Bidenomics than Biden’s fiscal stimulus. But industrial policy differs in one crucial way from fiscal policy, and, for that matter, monetary, health, education and all sorts of other policies: It lacks a rigorous economic foundation

The risk is obvious. W/o a coherent economic framework, industrial policy is more likely to fail and discredit the entire concept. This wasn’t a big deal when it mostly meant small-ticket projects. But today, it’s big bucks!
