Turkey’s CB raised the country’s benchmark IR, the one-week repo rate, to 17.5% from 15% after increasing rates in June for the first time since 2021

It’s a rather weak attempt of a new team installed by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to rescue the country’s troubled economy – the increase is lower than expected by some analysts who’ve called for the bank to take aggressive action to tamp down rampant inflation

The decision to raise interest rates by only 2.5pps heightens concerns that Turkey’s new economic team doesn’t have the power to stand up to Mr. Erdogan, who’s said his views on interest rates haven’t changed. IR cuts demanded by the Turkish president, along with tens of billions of dollars spent in an effort to prop up the Turkish lira, left Turkey with a perilous shortage of foreign currency that threatened the economic stability of the country

The Biden campaign says its video featuring Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene as an unlikely spokeswoman for the Democrat incumbent is sweeping the internet

The viral ad features POTUS walking with VP Kamala Harris and meeting workers and voters across America against a narration by Ms. Greene, a Georgia Republican who decried Mr. Biden’s agenda at the conservative Turning Point USA Action Conference

The audio features Ms. Greene chastising Mr. Biden for investments in “social infrastructure,” “environmental programs” and “rural poverty,” and for “finishing what FDR started”

Decontextualizing is something what the Dems are good at. As for reality, Bidenomics leaves much to be desired, so far!

Rep. James Comer alleges that President Biden and Hunter broke racketeering, money laundering, tax fraud, and foreign lobbying laws, backed by over 150 Treasury Department suspicious activity reports typically associated with money laundering, human trafficking, and terrorism.

Comer further asserts that Hunter, James, and Sara Biden utilized at least 20 shell companies to transfer millions of dollars from foreign individuals to at least nine members of the Biden family.

These actions violated the Foreign Agent Registration Act, as they operated as unregistered foreign lobbyists.

According to FBI and IRS whistleblowers cited by Comer, the Justice Department protected Hunter from felony charges, and the FBI neglected to investigate the Bidens.

In the words of Rep. Comer, "It's illegal to create a bunch of shell companies. It's illegal to launder money. It's illegal to accept bribes from foreign nationals. It's illegal not to pay taxes on the money you make. And it's illegal to not register as a foreign agent if you are working as a foreign agent."

Comer also accuses Hunter Biden of spending significant amounts on escort services flagged by the Treasury Department in suspicious activity reports, potentially involving women trafficked from Russia and Ukraine.

Given the mountain of evidence supporting these claims, how can anyone honestly argue that the FBI and Justice Department are not being weaponized to target Trump while simultaneously safeguarding the Bidens?

Sweden’s state energy company Vattenfall has said it’s stopping development of the 1.4GW Norfolk Boreas wind farm, which could have powered about 1.5M British homes, after supply chain problems and inflation increased its costs by up to 40%

Boreas was one of five offshore wind projects that secured contracts a year ago to supply electricity at £37.35/MWh in 2012 prices. The contracts are index-linked to inflation, making them worth more than £45/MWh today — but developers say costs have risen even more steeply

This is another serious blow to Sunak’s clean energy ambitions. Managing director of the Opergy Group, a Norfolk headquartered consultancy in the U.K. clean energy sector, Johnathan Reynolds, says: “The decision comes as a blow to the British renewable energy ambitions and has far-reaching negative impacts on the U.K. supply chain and job market”

U.N. SR Fionnuala Ni Aolain became the first such expert allowed to visit the U.S. detention center in Cuba. But only few major media covered her visit

Her report details evidence of “cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment” of those detained at the center by U.S. officials. Out of the 30 remaining detainees 19 haven’t been charged yet, altho some of them have spent >20y in the Guantanamo prison

Ms. Ni Aolain found that the men held there were subject to systematic cruel methods of torture such as constant battery, sleep deprivation, short shackling in painful positions, extreme use of heat&cold, nudity, sexual assault, threats to family members – atrocities were approved at the highest level

“There’s no statute for limitations on torture,” Ms. Ni Aolain said. “Those who perpetrated it, engaged in it, concealed it… remain liable for the entirety of their lives”

Moreover, American intel. agencies revealed that counterterrorism officials use the NSA database to help them vet immigrants being processed to travel to the U.S.

American spook agencies’ deals became known by chance at the end of last week as a "side effect" of revealing the F.B.I.’s improper search of a foreign-intelligence database for information about a U.S. senator and two state officials last year. The disclosure could further complicate Biden administration efforts to renew a major spy program that already faces bipartisan opposition in Congress
