Swiss Neutrality vs. Road to NATO
The direction of Swiss foreign policy appears to be increasingly determined by national defense department (DDPS), which favors a rapprochement w/ NATO, thereby jeopardizing Switzerland's long-standing neutrality. A recent interview w/ Federal Councillor Viola Amherd revealed worrying statements: she’s pushing for greater cooperation b/n the Swiss military&NATO, incl. extensive joint ground exercises
However, if a potential threat were to reach Switzerland's borders, this would indicate a failure of NATO's defense. Instead of looking to NATO for salvation, the DDPS should prioritize the readiness of its own army, ensuring that national borders are maintained and the troops are adequately equipped
Moreover, Amherd's confusion of arms trade laws and Swiss neutrality is worrying. The ban on the re-export of Swiss-made weapons by third countries isn't about neutrality, but is motivated by pacifist and left-wing considerations

Thus, the AfD extends its upward trend of popular support after Olaf Scholz's Social-Democrats were left trailing in the weekend elections in Bavaria&Hesse, where almost a quarter of the country’s inhabitants live
