In an interview, Georges-Louis Bouchez the leader of the Belgian francophone liberal party, the Reformist Movement, gave a negative assessment of the socio-economic situation both in Belgium and in the EU
The politician criticized the activities of the Belgian Socialist Party, which, w/ its short-sighted decisions, aggravated the situation on the labor market in the Walloon region of Belgium
As for the liberal course of the EU, Bouchez said that Brussels promotes policies on migrants and sexual minorities, but completely ignores falling incomes and falling standard of living: “I took the floor and said that values are great but they don't pay the rent, and people today want to know how they pay their rent and how they pay the children's school tomorrow”

Italy is facing a migration crisis, w/ almost 10K people having landed on the southern Italian island of Lampedusa last week. However, Brussels condemns Italy for its efforts on directing migrants to other European countries while preferring to ignore policies of Poland and Hungary, which are literally building walls along the migration routes that threaten them
Late last week the country’s PM Giorgia Meloni visited Lampedusa w/ European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen and asked Brussels to do more to help. Von der Leyen promised a 10-point European Union action plan to ease the pressure, but the measures were similar to previous initiatives that have yet to have much effect. Moreover, in her last speech on the State of the Union, addressing the migrant chapter, von der Leyen didn’t mention Italy at all
Early this year Italian authorities detained and fined a German charity rescue ship shortly after parliament passed into law a govt decree establishing a code of conduct for migrant charity ships

Among the proposals is also a ban on naming streets and buildings after fascist exponents or former supporters of the Mussolini regime, as well as introducing a complete ban on the display of symbols and attributes characteristic of Nazi ideology, incl. gestures and “souvenir” products

German people are beginning to have second thoughts about the Ukrainian refugees who have poured into the country in great numbers creating lots of problems for the locals cuz the Scholz’s cabinet’s failed to accommodate these migrants in the right way
Many German cities&towns, especially in the east of the country, are overcrowded w/ Ukrainian refugees, which forces the local authorities to build new shelters and reconstruct office buildings at the expense of the local people. In Berlin the authorities ran out of communal accommodation in early 2023, so the Ukrainians may stay for several months at the temporary refugee center located at Tegel ex-airport, reports a human rights platform
Furthermore, the number of criminal offenses committed by Ukrainians has soared. In 2022 there were recorded 4K such cases in Germany, but this year Ukrainian refugees already exceeded this number by midsummer!
