“Seizures are of two types: seizures caused by evil earthly spirits and seizures caused by bodily imbalances. The second type is what physicians discuss regarding its causes and treatment.
As for seizures caused by spirits, their leading scholars and rational individuals acknowledge its existence and do not deny it. They affirm that its treatment involves confronting those wicked, evil spirits with noble, righteous, celestial spirits (i.e., angels), which counteract their effects, oppose their actions, and nullify them. Hippocrates himself mentioned this in some of his writings, where he discussed certain treatments for seizures and stated: “This treatment only benefits seizures caused by bodily imbalances. However, seizures caused by spirits are not affected by this treatment.” …
As for ignorant physicians, their lowly and base individuals, and those who see virtue in heresy, they are the ones who deny spirit-induced seizures and refuse to acknowledge that spirits can affect the body of the afflicted person. They have nothing but ignorance. Otherwise, there is nothing in medical science that refutes this phenomenon. Sensory experience and reality testify to its existence. Their claim that all seizures result from bodily imbalances is true only for some cases, not all.
The ancient physicians used to call this type of seizure “the divine disease” and said it originates from spirits. However, Galen and others misinterpreted this designation, claiming that it was called “the divine disease” because it occurs in the head and affects “the divine, pure faculty,” which resides in the brain.
This misinterpretation arose due to their ignorance regarding these spirits, their nature, and their influence. Later, the heretical physicians went further and denied the existence of any seizures except those caused by bodily imbalances.
Anyone with intellect and knowledge of these spirits and their effects laughs at the ignorance of these individuals and their weak reasoning.
[Treatment of Spirit-Induced Seizures] (those caused by Jinn and the evil eye)
The treatment of this type of seizure involves two aspects:
1️⃣ From the side of the afflicted person—this is through the strength of his soul, his sincere devotion to the Creator of these spirits and their Originator, and through proper seeking of refuge in Allah, where the heart and tongue are aligned in supplication. This is a form of combat, and no warrior achieves victory over his enemy with weapons unless two conditions are met:
• The weapon itself must be of high quality and in good condition.
• The wielder must be strong.
If either of these is lacking, the weapon will not be very effective. So what if both are absent?
If the heart is devoid of Tawḥīd (pure monotheism), reliance on Allah, piety, and spiritual focus, and the person possesses no spiritual weaponry at all, how can he expect to triumph?
2️⃣ From the side of the healer—he must also possess these two qualities. Indeed, some healers suffice by simply saying:
• “Come out of him!”
• “In the Name of Allah.”
• “There is no power nor strength except with Allah.”

[The Ugly Pauses in Recitation]
The tābiʿī Maimūn ibn Mihrān said:
“I shudder at the recitation of some people who see it as an obligation upon themselves not to recite less than ten verses. The reciters of the past would read the passages whether they were long or short. But today, one of them recites: {And when it is said to them, ‘Do not cause corruption on the earth,’ they say, ‘We are only reformers.’} (Qur’an 2:11), then in the second rakʿah, he recites: {Unquestionably, it is they who are the corrupters.} (Qur’an 2:12).”

[A Clear Hadith Showing When the Last Ten Nights Begin (ie., the 21st Night)]
It is narrated by al-Bukhari (813) and Muslim (1167) on the authority of Abu Sa‘id al-Khudri, who said:
“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) observed i‘tikaf (seclusion for worship) during the first ten of Ramadan, and we observed i‘tikaf with him.
Then Jibril came to him and said: ‘What you are seeking is ahead of you.’ So he observed i‘tikaf during the middle ten, and we observed i‘tikaf with him.
Then Jibril came to him and said: ‘What you are seeking is ahead of you.’ On the morning of the twentieth of Ramadan, the Prophet (ﷺ) stood up to deliver a sermon and said:
‘Whoever has observed i‘tikaf with the Prophet (ﷺ), let him return, for I have been shown the Night of Decree, but I have been made to forget it. It is in the last ten nights, on an odd night. I saw myself (in a dream) prostrating in mud and water.’ The roof of the mosque was made of palm leaves, and we saw nothing in the sky.
Then a cloud came and it rained. The Prophet (ﷺ) led us in prayer until I saw the traces of mud and water on the forehead and the tip of the nose of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), confirming his dream.”
