UN EXPERT RELEASES FULL REPORT ON IMPACT OF US-LED SANCTIONS AGAINST VENEZUELA
The Belarusian lawyer added that the threat of extraterritorial and secondary sanctions has led to “over-compliance by banks and third-country companies,” amplifying the negative impact of primary sanctions. Furthermore, she argued that the “humanitarian exemptions appear to be ineffective and insufficient” to alleviate the crisis.
The special rapporteur concluded that unilateral sanctions against Venezuela are politically motivated, undermine the most fundamental human rights and violate international law. She urged the US and its allies to lift all coercive measures.

VENEZUELA: OIL SECTOR STAGNANT AS US CHAMBER OF COMMERCE CALLS FOR SANCTIONS 'OVERHAUL'
Opposition to Washington’s Venezuela policy has likewise grown louder on Capitol Hill. Several House Democrats, including Jesús “Chuy” García (D-IL), Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Jim McGovern (D-MA) have spearheaded efforts calling on President Joe Biden to lift the “maximum pressure” measures left by his predecessor.
The US Chamber of Commerce was the latest actor to lobby for a change of direction. In a September 9 letter, the chamber’s Senior Vice President for the Americas Neil Harrington argued for “overhauling a counterproductive U.S. sanctions policy.”

OBJECTIVITY AND COMMITMENT: A CONVERSATION WITH GREGORY WILPERT
I would argue that all media outlets, including the supposedly “neutral” and “uncommitted” corporate media, are actually committed to particular points of view, namely in favor of dominant class interests. They just go out of their way to hide this commitment and to claim that it does not exist. An outlet such as Venezuelanalysis, though, admits its commitment to the subordinate (or “popular”) classes in Venezuela, while still maintaining objectivity, honesty, and truthfulness in its reporting.

VENEZUELA TAKES CENTRE STAGE AT HEATED CELAC SUMMIT IN MEXICO
Maduro’s presence sparked a war of words with his Uruguayan and Paraguayan counterparts, Luis Lacalle Pou and Mario Abdo Benítez, respectively. Both Lacalle Pou and Benítez used the summit to attack Venezuela, clarifying that their participation alongside Maduro did not constitute a recognition of his government. Both Montevideo’s and Asunción’s rightist administrations have resisted global backtracks and continue to recognize Venezuela’s under-fire opposition leader, Juan Guaidó, as the country’s legitimate leader.
In response, Maduro fired back and challenged his counterparts to a debate, strongly urging them to “set a day, place and time.” He additionally defended Venezuela’s “protagonistic democratic model.”

ITALIAN COURT REJECTS EXTRADITION OF FORMER VENEZUELAN OIL MINISTER RAFAEL RAMÍREZ
The decision overruled a previous favorable opinion for Ramírez's extradition by the Rome Appeals Court Attorney General, Roberto Cavallone. In early July, the Italian prosecutor argued that there were "no elements to indicate that the pending judicial process amounts to persecution for political reasons [or that] the procedure will not respect the accused's fundamental rights."
However, Ramírez’s lawyers called on the Italian authorities to reject Cavallone’s recommendation on the grounds that the former minister would face “political persecution” if sent back to Venezuela.

💚♀️ Venezuelan feminist movements and allied organizations marched in Caracas demanding abortion decriminalization and women's reproductive and sexual rights.
The feminist collectives, gathered in the #RutaVerde campaign, took off from Morelos square to the National Assembly, where they were received by deputies from the social development committee.
In the meeting, the feminist activists presented a document explaining why abortion criminalization is a public health issue that must be included in the country's 2021-2022 legislative agenda.
The organizations likewise proposed a national abortion debate "based on human rights" and advance towards new legislation that guarantees safe and legal abortion for women.
Abortion in Venezuela is illegal, with the sole exception of a woman's life being at risk. As a result, women resort to backstreet procedures, the majority in unsanitary conditions.
Abortion pills are among the safest and most common ways to terminate a pregnancy, but these can cost up to US $220 in the black market, which makes them inaccessible for poor women in a country that has an ongoing economic crisis.
Despite being illegal, a number of grassroots organizations provide free information and advice to women seeking to terminate their pregnancies. Feminist collectives @entintavioleta and @faldasr spearheaded this year's #RutaVerde campaign for abortion decriminalization and were joined by over 60 organizations and women's rights activists from across the Caribbean country.
Inspired by recent advances in the region, the feminist movements have pledged to continue the mobilization.
