CANDIDATES DISCUSS THE NOVEMBER ELECTIONS: A CONVERSATION WITH JESÚS GARCÍA AND JANOHI ROSAS

In the face of the attempt to repeat the neoliberal recipe of the 1980s – which comes with great suffering for the people and loss of sovereignty – the APR and the PCV have put forth an alternative political proposal: the defense of social and labor rights, which are at the center of our political agenda.

In contrast, the PSUV leadership coincides with the right-wing opposition when they say that those of us who make proposals in favor of the people – such as the demand for a living wage as established in the constitution – as demagogy or ultra-leftism. This is proof that the leadership of the governing party has ceased to represent the interests of the people and is siding with private capital.

This Sunday, Venezuela holds its twenty-seventh election since 1998. The so-called "mega-elections" will see 21.2 million people choose from 70,244 candidates representing 111 political parties in order to elect 3,082 public officers: 23 state governors, 335 local mayors, 253 regional legislators and 2,471 local councillors.

VENEZUELAN ENVOY ALEX SAAB PLEADS NOT GUILTY IN US COURT

Litigation in the US regarding his diplomatic status is ongoing and could affect the start of his trial on money laundering charges.

Outside the Miami courthouse, a group of demonstrators expressed their support for the Colombo-Venezuelan businessman, part of a wider set of demonstrations that took place throughout the world in support of Saab.

In Venezuela, a group of supporters on motorcycles rode through the capital demanding his release before arriving at the Cuban Embassy where they heard from Camilla Fabri Saab, wife of the envoy who has become the face of the campaign in his defense.

VENEZUELA: 'MEGA-ELECTION' CAMPAIGN WRAPS UP WITH LARGE RALLIES ACROSS THE COUNTRY

Candidates across the political spectrum received ample airtime on public and private media to promote their electoral proposals, centered on recovering the country’s public services, significantly strained after a years-long economic crisis and under crushing US sanctions.

Sunday's ballot, the twenty-seventh since 1998, will see the election of 3,082 public officers, including 23 state governors, 335 mayors, 253 regional legislators and 2,471 local councilors.

The ruling Socialist Party (PSUV)+ bloc set in motion its electoral machinery in all 23 states. For the final campaign event, the incumbent Miranda state governor Héctor Rodríguez gathered hundreds of supporters in the populous Petare barrio in eastern Caracas.
