Genetic distance to Globular Amphora (c. 3400–2800 BC)

The Globular Amphora culture (GAC) was a Chalcolithic culture of Central Europe, centered around modern-day Eastern Germany, Poland, and Western Ukraine. They succeeded the earlier Funnelbeaker culture in the region.

The people of this culture belonged to the Early European Farmer (EEF) genetic cluster, which is defined as a mix of Anatolian Neolithic Farmers (ANF) and Western European Hunter-Gatherers (WHG). Although, unlike most EEF groups, they also show a small signal from Eastern Hunter Gatherers (EHG). This is because local Mesolithic HG’s of Germany and Poland had slight EHG admixture.

Males of the GAC belonged to Y-haplogroup I2a, which was originally a WHG lineage. WHG lineages took predominance over ANF lineages among Northern and Western EEFs during the Late Neolithic.

The GAC was eventually replaced by the Corded Ware culture (CWC), which stemmed from a massive westward migration of WSHs. GAC represents the main source of EEF admixture among the CWC.

Made a correction to the post. The EHG signal likely came from local Central European HG’s

Made some major improvements to my old ”Crown Eurasian” experimental calculator:

For those wondering, Crown Eurasian refers to non-Basal West and North Eurasians.

More changes to the Paleolithic calculator:

Revised the East Asia portion. It now differentiates between ANEA (Northern East Asian) and ASEA (Southeast Asian). Also added better proxies for the Australoid and Oceanian components

The star of my upcoming post on the Abashevo culture.

This young man was an Abashevo warrior who was buried with 26 other men in a mass grave under a kurgan. The Abashevo descended from the Fatyanovo culture and would lead to the formation of the Sintashta culture. They are theorized to have spoken a proto-Indo-Iranian language.

Thanks to @thechadpastoralist for his assistance on this reconstruction. I also want to thank Upasaka as well for his helpful feedback on the piece.

Relatively high distances, possibly the result of the sample being lower coverage.

Genetic distance to the Early Medieval Baiuvarii 🗡️🇩🇪

The Baiuvarii were a Germanic people who settled in the regions of modern day Bavaria and Austria. They are likely to have spoken an early version of the Austro-Bavarian dialect of the Upper German family.

The model shown in the post above was made using the newly updated Ancestral calculator:

Finally fixed the Baltic HG overlap issue by adding in Central European Mesolithic samples. Now the Baltic HG will be split between WHG (which includes Central Euro Meso) and EHG. This seems to be the most reliable method so far.

The next fix will be regarding SC Asians 👍

As always, the fully updated calcs are available in the pinned message.
